A Dynamic Co-Educational School in a Stunning Location. A fully co-educational day and boarding school to inspire tomorrow’s innovative thinkers, stretch brilliant minds and nurture individuals from age 3 to 18 and beyond. Steeped in over 400 years of history, Haberdashers’ Monmouth School is a UK leading independent school that excels from the heart of the Wye Valley. Nestled in the picturesque and safe market town of Monmouth, in the heart of the scenic Wye Valley, our school offers the perfect blend of academic excellence, pastoral care, and holistic well-being to create a unique and rewarding experience for students from all over the world
World-Class Education. Our world-class academic offering combines a broad curriculum with personalised support to ensure every student thrives. For international students, our school serves as a gateway to a truly British education that balances academic rigour with personal growth. In Senior School, students choose nine to ten GCSE subjects from a diverse selection of 28, benefiting from small class sizes and highly qualified, dedicated teachers who provide individual attention and specialist learning support where needed. This foundation leads seamlessly into Sixth Form, where students explore intellectual passions through 30 available subjects, A levels, the EPQ, and an enriching curriculum designed to promote resilience and readiness for university and the workplace. Strong exam results and around 60% Russell Group university entries reflect our commitment to academic excellence, with students going on to excel in fields such as engineering, languages, business, medicine, and the arts.
Boarding. Approximately a quarter of our students are boarders, living in six distinctive boarding houses that provide the highest standards of care and a true home-from-home atmosphere. Each house has its own unique character, fostering a warm and welcoming community supported by dedicated Housemasters and matrons. For older students, our purpose-built Sixth Form Houses offer ensuite study rooms, allowing them to develop greater independence in a structured and supportive environment, ensuring a smooth transition to university life.
Health and Wellness. Beyond academics, our pastoral care system is second to none. From the moment your child arrives, they are welcomed into a warm, family-like atmosphere. Our focus on emotional well-being and personal development ensures that students build confidence, resilience, and lifelong friendships. The breath-taking natural surroundings of Monmouth also provide a safe and peaceful setting, offering students the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, sports, and adventure as part of their co-curricular educational experience.
Our Pillars. At Haberdashers’ Monmouth School, academic success and outstanding pastoral support form the bedrock of everything we do, ensuring that every student is equipped to achieve their full potential. Beyond this, our distinctive ‘pillars’ elevate us above other independent schools, making us a sector leader. Sport and Outdoor Learning, led by former international rugby player Richie Rees, provides world-class training and instils essential life skills through physical education and adventure. Performing Arts, inspired by alumna and acclaimed conductor Dame Jane Glover, offers unparalleled opportunities in music, drama, and creative performance. Design, Fashion, and Textiles, under the esteemed patronage of Professor Jimmy Choo, allows students to explore their creative potential while gaining invaluable industry insights. Finally, our commitment to Sustainability places environmental stewardship at the heart of our ethos, preparing students to lead responsibly and shape a sustainable future. These pillars exemplify our holistic approach to education, ensuring every child thrives both inside and outside the classroom.
The Monmouth 100. At the end of their time here, we want all our students to leave with both breadth and depth in their lives.
Our ‘Monmouth 100’ co-curricular programme offers both these things. There is a huge range of activities here so everyone will find something that appeals to them, whether it’s beekeeping or bridge club, ceramics or cycling, web design or water polo.
Activities take place after school during the week. In addition, some activities will run on Saturday mornings. These are compulsory for boarders and voluntary for day students, although we encourage these students to take full advantage of a fantastic opportunities.
Tradition and Innovation with the Haberdashers' Advantage. Choosing Haberdashers' Monmouth means becoming part of a prestigious institution that combines centuries of tradition with a forward-thinking approach to education. Central to our offering is the Haberdashers' Advantage, which provides not only financial support but also access to a world-class network of contacts, opening doors to unparalleled opportunities.
Through initiatives such as the Habs Aspire programme, Sixth Form students gain awareness of diverse career paths, build confidence, and connect with the broader Haberdashers’ community, ensuring a strong foundation as they move into the wider world. This unique blend of academic excellence, personalised care, and a global community ensures that a child’s education here is transformative.
