Lincoln Minster School is an independent, co-educational school for pupils aged 4–18. Our priorities are for pupils to be happy and to achieve – and in that order. We therefore strive to combine inspirational teaching with a wealth of co-curricular opportunities in order to bring out the best in everyone.
We offer an all-through education tailored to the unique needs of every pupil, who is nurtured and supported by dedicated and caring staff. We want our pupils to enjoy life both inside and outside of the classroom, while developing crucial life skills such as confidence, communication and leadership.
Location and facilities. Located in the centre of the historic city of Lincoln, the school has its roots dating back to the 12th century and is based across two sites. The Senior School spans a number of buildings, at the heart of which is the purpose-built Prior Building overlooking the city, which was opened in 2002 by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey. The Prep School is a beautiful, self-contained site that was extensively redeveloped in 2014, featuring specialist classrooms and sharing access to impressive facilities with the Senior School.
Lincoln Minster School is a proud member of United Learning, one of the country's largest education providers. Our membership provides access to a wide network of resources and connections, as well as the strength and security that comes from working collaboratively with other top schools.
Curriculum. The school offers a full range of subjects and is proud of its strong record of examination success. We are most focused on the progress that our pupils make during their time with us, whatever their strengths or challenges when they join, and we pride ourselves in helping them to achieve highly and enjoy the process.
We specialise in bringing out the best in every pupil and place equal value on cultural, technological, scientific, linguistic and creative subjects. We also enrich our curriculum by providing numerous trips, visits and activities. Our recently revamped co-curricular programme allows up to an hour every single day for pupils to try activities they choose, whether their interests lie in sport, music, drama, dance, archery, or many others.
We were also recently ranked 63rd in School Sport's Top 200 Sporting Schools and shortlisted for the national Independent Schools of the Year Awards for Sporting Achievement. This owes much to our specialised programmes in golf, tennis and squash, while we also offer a variety of other sports for pupils to enjoy.
We encourage all our pupils to push their boundaries, try new skills outside their comfort zones, and view mistakes as opportunities to learn. Through this approach, our students build resilience, grow in self-esteem, and become better prepared to face future challenges.
Music. Within Music, pupils can benefit from excellent teaching, access to a wide range of peripatetic tutors, and regular opportunities with local, national and global competitions and festivals. Additionally, our close relationship with the Lincoln Cathedral brings with it one of the grandest of settings in which our music students can perform.
Our Harper Building was purpose-built for Music and Drama and is equipped with individual practice rooms, a music studio, classrooms, and the Recital Hall at its heart – an ideal venue for concerts, rehearsals, and workshops.
Admissions. Once you have decided to join the Lincoln Minster community, our staff will support you throughout the entire application process.
We are less interested in entrance exams than we are in individual character. We welcome pupils who embrace our aims, ethos, and expectations, with confidence in our ability to provide every child with a meaningful education that aligns with their potential and prepares them for life.
Scholarships. Each year, we are proud to award scholarships to pupils who demonstrate high achievement and meaningfully contribute to our community.
Scholarships are available for entry into Years 7, 9, and 12, with awards based on a range of factors, including references and assessment performance. Scholarships are reviewed on a termly basis, and provided the criteria are consistently met, they will be renewed for another term throughout the pupil’s time at Lincoln Minster School.
