Bloxham School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 11 to 18. Situated in north Oxfordshire, Bloxham offers a rural setting whilst being easily accessible from London and the Home Counties.
A Bloxham education provides students with enriching educational experiences that help them to mature intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually. A balanced curriculum encourages the students to become leaders and creative thinkers, foster their passions, and be compassionate to others. Bloxham’s outstanding teaching standards enable students to fulfil their academic potential, opening the doors of opportunity beyond the school gates and into their future careers.
An education from Bloxham School encapsulates the following five hallmarks:
•A Passion for Learning: fostering creativity and the capacity for dynamic, independent and critical thought. At the heart of Bloxham’s teaching is the belief that all students should be inspired and encouraged to explore their learning further. Students learn to develop independent critical thought, reflect on their learning and use their intellect to problem solve.
•A Balanced Curriculum: academic rigour sits high on the agenda, but it is complemented by the broader curriculum to develop qualities like resilience, communication, teamwork and tenacity. Bloxham’s broader curriculum ranges from mainstream sports to minor ones, and from music, drama and art, to astronomy and kayaking.
•A Gold Standard of Pastoral Care: a commitment to every child’s wellbeing creates the strong foundations on which Bloxham’s reputation for a gold standard of pastoral care has been built. We are proud to offer full, flexi and day boarding options.
•The Development of Character: through promotion of responsibility, generosity, resilience, and imagination. The broad and balanced curriculum, along with the experience of being part of a boarding community, creates opportunities for students to be of service to others, to lead by example, and to be part of a team. By working with others they learn to communicate, to listen, to be generous in their support and to develop empathy.
•Christian Values: nurturing a compassionate spirit so that students become a force for good in an ever-changing world. Bloxham aims to develop “spiritual intelligence” alongside intellectual and emotional intelligence, where students can think for themselves, question what they believe and formulate their core values, perhaps for the rest of their lives. Although the school has been built on a Christian ethos, those of faith, no faith and other faiths are welcomed and Bloxham openly encourages understanding, diversity and tolerance for all.
Admissions. Students join Bloxham at 11+, 13+ and 16+. 11+ entry is based on performance in the school’s entrance exam, whilst 13+ entry is based on common entrance results (if appropriate). Students looking to join at 16+ should be predicted at least six 9-5 grades, including Maths and English. Students should have at least 6s in their option subjects, with 7s desirable for Maths and Sciences.
