Founded in the early 1930s, the Ursuline Preparatory School enjoys a reputation as a happy family school, where pupils strive to give of their best in all areas of school life. Consequently, much emphasis is placed on encouraging the children to develop to the full their individual talents and interests, as well as fostering in each pupil a strong sense of well-being, self-reliance and team spirit.
This is achieved by the frequent use of praise, by adherence to an agreed policy of consistent and fair discipline and by the high standards, moral code and caring attitudes deriving from the strongly Catholic ethos which underpins the life of the whole school.
The Ursuline Preparatory School has well qualified and very experienced teachers and support staff.
It is committed to offering to all its pupils the distinct advantages of a broad and balanced curriculum. This includes a rigorous academic curriculum supplemented by the provision of an excellent PE, Drama, Music, ICT and Language programme.
A comprehensive range of extracurricular activities are offered to the pupils. These are taught by specialist staff and include subjects such as Theatre Club, Art Appreciation, ICT, Maths, Chess, Ballet and Speech and Drama. As well as many Instrumental Classes and Sporting Activities, with which the School has considerable success in gaining individual and team awards at competition level.
The School successfully prepares children for entry to local and national independent schools, both day pupils and boarding, Grammar Schools or local Secondary Schools.
The relatively small size of the School allows for very close contact between staff, pupils and parents and provides each child with the opportunity to fulfil his or her academic potential. The pupils are encouraged to follow their own interests and to develop a sense of self-confidence and self-worth which will hopefully remain with them throughout their lives, allowing them to reflect the school motto: A Caring School that strives for excellence.
Charitable status. The Ursuline Preparatory School is a Registered Charity, number 1058282, which is a non-profit making and managed by an independent board of voluntary trustees. It exists to provide Roman Catholic children and those of other denominations with the opportunity to reach the highest individual standards possible in every area of School life.
