King Edward VI Preparatory School is a co-educational day school for children aged 2 to 11 years, with a Head's Recommendation Scheme allowing KES Prep children achieving at the appropriate level in their studies by the end of Year 5 a guaranteed place at its senior school, King Edward VI, Southampton, for Year 7, without the risks and anxiety associated with an external examination route.
The School stands on the outskirts of Romsey in its own grounds of 22 acres, which include playing fields, a full-sized sports hall, a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, riding arena, a wellbeing centre, lawns and gardens and a purpose-built Pre-prep building and Art and Design Pod. The main team games for boys are cricket, hockey, rugby and football, and for girls hockey, cricket and netball. Both boys and girls play tennis.
Music and drama play an important part in the life of the School. A wide variety of instruments is taught and children are encouraged to join the school orchestra. Each year there is a musical production and the Christmas Carol Service is held at Romsey Abbey.
The KES Prep Association, run by the parents, holds many social activities and helps to raise money for amenities, but its main function is to generate goodwill.
