St Piran’s is a thriving co-educational IAPS day school set amid 10 delightful acres just to the north of Maidenhead town centre, founded as a small school in Blackheath, London in 1805.
Class sizes are small with a maximum of 20 children. The pupils are provided with a wide range of exciting opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Numerous trips to castles and museums, theatres and shows, history re-enactments, geographical fieldwork and religious sites extend the children’s understanding of the world around them. In addition to the academic subjects, pupils take part in a wide range of sports and extra-curricular activities each week.
Academically, the school offers a broad curriculum across all year groups. French starts from Reception where confidence in the spoken language is encouraged. By Year 6 we are introducing Latin and Spanish. The children enjoy specialist teaching in Art, Games and PE, IT, swimming and Music from an early age. We support our pupils with their entrance exams at 11+ to Grammar Schools or other Senior independent schools. Our results over the years have been excellent, supporting our desire to encourage independent thinkers, confident individuals and strong leaders of the future.
The main sports that pupils take part in are rugby, football, netball, hockey, cricket (both girls and boys) and swimming, but here are over 15 others on offer. The school has its own indoor swimming pool and large sports hall. St Piran’s also has a dance studio and pupils are encouraged to take an active part in the performing arts. A brand-new Media Suite is set to open after Christmas above the art classrooms, as well a recording studio with a St Piran’s Live Lounge in the Music Block.
At St Piran’s, we have chosen to adopt the Harmony curriculum, inspired by The Harmony Project and His Majesty The King’s book Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World. This approach helps children learn from Nature rather than simply about it, building understanding, curiosity and a sense of responsibility for the world around them.
Pupils may enter the school at any age, and during term time where space is available.
The school is proud of its outstanding record of achievement and the fully rounded education that it provides within a friendly caring atmosphere. We are proud of our Christian tradition and family ethos which foster high expectations and successful, happy children.
Children and parents are warmly invited to visit St Piran’s to see for themselves the excellent facilities that we offer and to meet some of the staff and pupils.
Charitable status. St Piran’s School Limited is a Registered Charity, number 309094.
