The school, founded on its present site in 1936 by the Sisters of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, stands in 17 acres of parkland in the pleasant suburb of Edgbaston, only 2 miles from the centre of Birmingham. The school has extensive playing fields, excellent AstroTurf tennis courts, a multi-gym, athletics facilities and football and cricket pitches. There are minibuses running to and from school and frequent bus services to all parts of the city.
The school has an excellent Early Years Department on site which offers care for 51 weeks per annum and accepts children from the age of 6 months. All pupils are able to remain in After Care until 6.00pm if preferred.
The school has a diverse, inclusive pupil community built on strong Catholic heritage values and attitudes, welcoming children of all faiths and none. Pupils are taught by specialist teachers from the age of 9 and in the Senior School the curriculum is broad and balanced with pupils benefiting from small class sizes and individual attention, enabling them to make excellent progress in their academic development.
The school, whilst remaining proudly multi-ability, is justly proud of the academic achievements of the pupils. A wide range of subjects is available for GCSE and A Level, with good facilities, including well-equipped science laboratories, language resources rooms, Information Technology facilities, sports centre, multi-gym and performing arts Suite. The new Mayfield building opened in 2019, housing six new Preparatory classrooms, it marks the initial stage of a five-year development programme.
Priory School aims to develop the whole child, so that as well as achieving academic excellence, its pupil grow into confident, articulate, well-rounded individuals.
Entry to the school is by interview, assessment and day visit. Scholarships are awarded at 11+. Means tested bursaries may be awarded in cases of financial need.
Parents are warmly welcomed into the school to discuss individual needs. Full details prior to the visit may be obtained from the Admissions Registrar.
