The Paragon is an independent, co-educational day school based in a beautiful Georgian house situated a mile from the centre of Bath. The school is set in eight acres of grounds with woodland, conservation areas, lawns and streams. It’s the perfect ‘outdoor classroom’ and we use it right across the curriculum. We also enjoy regular access to the superb sport, science, D&T and drama facilities at our Senior School, Prior Park College.
An undoubtedly homely feel comes from being based in a beautiful, former family home. Then there’s our Christian ethos and strong pastoral care, as well as our belief that school at this age is about being stimulated and inspired, about laughter and spontaneity and about having fun.
We offer a broad curriculum taught in small classes by teachers with real passion. Academic life at The Paragon cultivates a love of learning and encourages independent and creative thinking. Our results are impressive. Our children consistently achieve well above the national average and a high proportion of Year 6 children win senior school scholarships and Head’s Awards. Our facilities include a library, large gymnasium/dining hall, Pre-School with secure indoor and outdoor play areas, art studio, modern languages and dedicated Music Lodge.
Sport is particularly strong at The Paragon. Our sports teams take part, with considerable success, in a wide range of tournaments and festivals. We also offer a vast range of sports clubs that all children can join regardless of ability. Prior Park College offers us an indoor swimming pool, Astroturf and grass pitches, tennis courts, athletics track and sports centre.
The Paragon’s extracurricular programme is extensive. Staff run more than 60 lunchtime and after-school clubs that range from pottery and chess, to drama and cross-country running. The school also enjoys an enviable reputation for Music. All children receive weekly music lessons from a specialist teacher. Our Year 2 students will learn the recorder, Year 3s a string instrument and Year 5s will spend a term learning Samba. In addition, visiting instrumental teachers offer tuition in a wide range of instruments. We offer an excellent choice of extracurricular music activities including the orchestra, two choirs, a wind band, brass group, flute choir, string ensemble, African drumming group and an ever-growing Samba band.
The Paragon is proud of its consistently impressive academic results but we strive for much more than success in exams. We believe in developing the whole person – physically, spiritually, and emotionally as well as intellectually. As W B Yeats said: ‘Education is not filling a bucket but lighting a fire.’
Charitable status. Prior Park Educational Trust is a Registered Charity, number 281242.
