Hereward House provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere in which every child feels valued, secure and thrives. The school works hard to create a stimulating, purposeful and happy community, within which boys are encouraged and assisted to develop academically, morally, emotionally, culturally and physically. The school’s aim is for boys to enjoy their school days yet at the same time be well prepared for the demands of Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations.
The school’s academic success is built upon excellent teaching and the highly individual educational teaching programmes created to meet individual boys’ needs. Great care is taken to ensure that a boy gains a place at the school which is right for him.
Boys are prepared for the Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations to highly sought-after independent schools, both day and boarding. Two-thirds of boys proceed to top London Day Schools, such as City of London, Highgate, St Paul’s, UCS and Westminster, others to leading boarding schools such as Eton, Harrow and Winchester. Scholarships and Awards have been won by our boys to several of the above schools.
The school takes pride in the breadth of education it offers. Music plays a major role in the boys’ education. Almost all boys learn at least one instrument, most of them two or even three. There is a full school orchestra which gives a performance each term. Weekly concerts are held throughout the year.
Team games play an integral part in the sports syllabus. We regularly field teams against other schools and have an enviable record of success in cricket, football and cross-country running. Swimming, badminton, handball, netball, volleyball and athletics are included in our sports programme.
Art has a valued place in the syllabus. Chess, judo, fencing, coding, yoga, ICT and music theory are among the clubs available to the boys.
