‘We chose Froebelian because it feels like a family.’ Mrs Canavan, Parent
At The Froebelian School, Horsforth, all children are loved unconditionally, enabled ambitiously and supported compassionately. As one of the leading independent preparatory schools in the North for children aged 2–11 years, School life is varied, exciting and fast-paced and there is never a dull moment as we embody our ethos of Love, Fairness, Respect and Honesty ‘Giving a Flying Start to the Citizens of Tomorrow’.
Since The Froebelian School’s foundation in 1913, influenced by German educationalist, Friedrich Froebel, it has become one of the North’s leading educational success stories. Academic results are outstanding, but the school offers much more than an excellent academic education: firmly believing in laying solid foundations for a lifelong love of learning, to gain knowledge and skills and develop personal attributes, relevant to each and every child’s future.
Children are at the heart of everything we do, and we are passionate that they enjoy a positive experience, in a warm, safe, friendly, caring, structured and secure environment.
The sense of community at Froebelian is second to none and we value our place in our local community, too. The breadth of opportunity on offer means that there is something for everyone to discover and in which to thrive. Our pupils are confident and our talented and passionate staff guide and support each individual on their personal journeys of discovery.
Our pupils are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and take risks in a safe and supportive environment, discovering new talents and interests which provide much happiness at school and, critically, develop their self-confidence, problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
Sport, Drama and Music all play important roles in school life. Games receives a more generous time allocation than in many schools and our pupils represent the school in fixtures in a wide range of sports. There are a multitude of opportunities to be involved in musical ensembles, groups and performances. House Drama competitions give large numbers of pupils the opportunity to tread the boards, and our end-of-year productions are of exceptional quality, playing to large audiences at Yeadon Town Hall.
We have a very active Outdoor Education Curriculum which provides residential experiences across the UK and all pupils in Year 6 undertake our very own version of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme – The FIVe (sic) Steps Challenge – through which they acquire self-reliance, resilience and teamwork while learning the importance of service to the community.
With 51-weeks-a-year provision for all children from the age of two, our bespoke-designed classrooms allow continuous access to an exceptional outdoor space including our hidden, secret forest and treehouse.
Our children adore their school and are justly proud of all they do. They love learning and there is a true sense of fun. We would love you to experience the warmth of our Froebelian Family for yourselves – please do come and see us!
The school is an educational charity where ultimate responsibility rests with a School Council (Governors). The day-to-day running of the school is delegated to the Headteacher, supported by a senior leadership team.
Charitable status. The Froebelian School is a Registered Charity, number 529111. It exists to provide education of the highest quality at affordable fee levels.
