We are London’s leading day school for children with specific learning differences specialising in the support of children with dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. We have transformed the lives of hundreds of families since opening in 1982 and remain at the forefront of the latest in SpLD knowledge and provision.
Our deep expertise is core to Fairley House and led to the creation of our magic formula we know works from Day 1. Our flexible approach and small class sizes allow us to see each child as an individual, so we can tailor their learning experience. When one approach isn’t working, we change and adapt until we are able to achieve progress and remove their barriers to learning.
The provision of on-site Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) and an in-house Educational Psychologist (EP) is key as it is our transdisciplinary approach which truly differentiates us from mainstream schools.
Our specialist teachers work together with subject teachers to implement multisensory teaching across subjects, applying our own formulated frameworks for everything from emotional regulation to memory.
We identify learning gaps to be plugged and regularly provide opportunities for re-learning. We understand not all brains are wired the same, so we adapt our teaching for the different neural pathways of each child.
This focus on the needs of each individual child is integral to helping them regain their confidence in a learning environment. Undoubtedly this is enhanced by the kinship they feel by being with like-minded children which is cultivated through collaborative work, co-curricular opportunities and after-school clubs.
Importantly, we continually monitor and track progress to steer development and boost learning outcomes. As a result we often find children may only need a year or two at Fairley House to rebuild their skills and confidence to subsequently re-enter mainstream education.
And when we don’t find the right tools and methods, we develop our own! That pioneering spirit is what has kept Fairley House at the forefront of SpLD education for over 40 years.
From humble beginnings in the living room of our founder Daphne Hamilton-Fairley, Fairley House has expanded over the years to now offer a first-class education across Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 with our tailored GCSE programme. We are thrilled with the consistently fantastic results our pupils achieve with many going on to success in fields as diverse as jewellery design and film production. It is our guiding mission that children with speech and language differences are not defined or limited by their learning challenges, but are inspired and empowered to realise their ambitions and reach their full potential.
