The School is situated in a quiet, leafy part of Hampton and is easily accessible by road and rail. After a merger with Hampton School in 1999, Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep is part of the Hampton School Trust. Both schools are served by the same Board of Governors and the Headmaster of Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep reports to the Headmaster of Hampton School. The amalgamation produces economies of scale from which Hampton Pre-Prep & Prep benefits. Boys transfer to senior schools at 11+.
The vast majority of Prep pupils transfer to Hampton School each year. Since September 2004, Hampton has been offering Assured Places for 11+ entry. These can be gained from Year 2 through to the end of Year 5 via an ongoing programme of assessment of the boys. In addition, those boys who perform very well in the 11+ Hampton entrance examinations, but who do not gain an award from Hampton, will be considered for the W D James Award made by Hampton Prep, which will be in the form of a reduction in the child’s first term’s fees at Hampton.
The Pre-Prep accepts boys and girls from 3 years to 7 years and is situated a five-minute walk from the Prep building in an attractive period property which is homely and inviting. The Pre-Prep has recently undergone a significant refurbishment project that has truly transformed the learning environment. The highlight has been the creation of an exceptional new school hall, which has already become a vibrant hub for school life. Alongside this, we have added a specifically tailored classroom space for our Reception children, refurbished an existing classroom for our Kindergarten children, and redone our spacious, well-equipped playground. These thoughtfully designed rooms and spaces provide a welcoming, stimulating environment that supports early years learning in the best possible way, retaining their access to the outdoor environment. Across the school, internal spaces have been reimagined and refreshed, enhancing functionality and making everyday experiences smoother and more enjoyable for both staff and pupils. There is one class per year group of 22 pupils.
The Prep School is two-form entry with approximately 18 pupils per class. The Prep site houses a state-of-the-art building and backs onto an attractive local park. The School's curriculum has a number of distinct elements including its own bespoke philosophy schemes of work, engineering instead of DT, computing instead of ICT, all of which sit alongside timetabled mindfulness and dance lessons for the boys in the Prep. Major school sports are football, rugby and cricket. An extensive programme of co-curricular activities includes: art club, chess, drama, music technology, computing, Lego and a variety of minor sports. There is a School choir, an orchestra and a flourishing tradition of drama. Individual music tuition and LAMDA lessons are also available.
There is a thriving Parents' Association and families share in the life of the School as fully as possible.
