Radnor House Sevenoaks is an independent school with entry from the term that pupils are aged 2 up to the age of 18. (See also Preparatory School entry in IAPS section.) In September 2014, the school became co-educational and in 2016, the school name was changed from Combe Bank to Radnor House Sevenoaks. Radnor House is proud to be a member of the Round Square global community of schools. Aims and ethos. The school’s mission is to future-proof pupils to give them the very best start in life. Academic qualifications are an important aspect of this but so too are interpersonal skills such as emotional intelligence and leadership and global citizenship. Underpinning their approach to education is a set of core values – excellence, respect, courage and perseverance – which form the bedrock of the school and provide a moral compass for children from school through to adulthood. Pupil happiness is a priority, as a happy child is one who will thrive, grasp opportunities to learn and develop into a confident and well-balanced young person. A focus of Radnor House Sevenoaks is to be a pioneer in preparing the children for the digital age by working with Microsoft to become one of their flagship schools as they aim to build adults who can thrive in the world of tomorrow by using technology to propel their learning forward.
Location. Situated in a Palladian Mansion and set in superb grounds with 28 acres of parkland just outside Sevenoaks, the school has excellent facilities. The Nursery, Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form are on the same site and there are many positive links between them, so that all pupils have access through the school until they leave at 18.
Curriculum. A modern and broad range of subjects is taught at all age levels. English, Mathematics, Sciences and an MFL are compulsory at GCSE. Pupils can then choose from Art, Computer Science, Drama, Economics, English Literature, RE, Geography, History, Mathematics, iMedia, Business, Modern Languages, Music, PE, Psychology, Science, Sociology and Photography subjects at A Level. The school boasts a strong Art department with an innovative graphic design suite, alongside a popular Performing Arts faculty with regular drama and musical performances in which wide participation is achieved. Radnor House Sevenoaks has a well-earned reputation for competitive success in a wide range of sports with its focus sports being football, hockey, cricket and swimming for both boys and girls. Swimming in the 25-metre indoor pool is a particularly popular activity from Nursery through to Sixth Form. Outdoor Adventurous Education has taken a firm place on the curriculum in the form of Forest School and Bush Craft for the Prep school, and Outdoor Education forming part of the Senior School curriculum alongside the option to participate in DofE awards.
Admission. Children enter the Prep school in Nursery from their 2nd birthday. Other entry points are Reception and Year 4. For the Senior School, pupils take the School’s entrance examination at 11+ and 13+. Deferred entry is offered for Year 9. Good passes at GCSE are also expected for the A Level subjects of choice in order to join the Sixth Form. There are a number of places available for Sixth Form entry, with offers conditional on GCSE results.
Transport. Private bus transport is organised for 6 significant routes, to be paid for on a termly basis.
Fees per term (2023–2024). Senior School: £7,200–£7,760 (Lunch £350); Preparatory School: £4,315–£5,570 (Lunch £325); Nursery: £1,140 for 3 sessions per week and Transition £1,900 with an additional session being £380 (includes lunch).
Scholarships. Radnor House Sevenoaks offers a range of Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Sport and All-Rounder scholarships for entry into Year 7, Year 9 and the Sixth Form. There are also Academic scholarships awarded into Year 4.
Scholarships are typically worth 10% of the annual tuition fee but may, in exceptional circumstances, be increased through the award of an Outstanding Scholarship which is entirely at the Head’s discretion. In addition, means-tested bursaries worth up to 50% of the tuition fee, are also available but only after a scholarship has been awarded.
