Bute House has a unique non-competitive academic ethos where every girl runs her own best race. The school offers a broad curriculum that develops skills alongside knowledge, and provides exceptional pastoral care in a happy, safe and inspiring environment. Through the implementation of our Learning Powers, our goal is to cultivate opportunities for students to foster connections across diversity, valuing differences as assets. We champion their voices, recognising their unique identities. These bonds create inclusive learning spaces, encouraging students to embrace risk-taking and collaboration.
Bute House overlooks extensive playing fields and is housed in a large, bright, modern building. Facilities include a science laboratory, a creative arts studio, a food technology room, a music studio, a drama studio, a multi-purpose hall and a spacious, well-stocked library which extends to separate reading pods. A well-qualified, enthusiastic and experienced staff teach a broad curriculum, which emphasises both the academic and the pastoral side of school life. We provide laptops, iPads and Chromebooks which are widely used for individual or class work. French and Spanish are taught from Year 1.
Sports include swimming, gymnastics, dance, tennis, football, netball, kwik cricket and athletics which are taught on our excellent on-site facilities. Full use is made of our local area and all that London has to offer. Residential trips further afield are also offered to the girls from Years 3–6.
Girls are encouraged to take an active part in school life from the start. There is a democratically elected School Council and regular school meetings, run by the girls, when all pupils are able to put their views forward, as well as to volunteer for key roles around the school. A wide variety of extracurricular activities are also available, such as cookery, debating, curve stitching, drama, knitting, karate, musical theatre and goblin car building, to name but a few.
Entry is by ballot at age 4 and by assessment at age 7.
