Set in 20 acres of beautiful woodland, close to Windsor Great Park, Bishopsgate is blessed with a glorious learning environment. The heart of the school remains as a large, Victorian house, but many additional modern buildings have been added offering parents outstanding on site facilities for their children.
The most exciting projects that have been completed are the new Science lab, the new Food Tech room, the sound clouds in the Dining Room and the new astro turf pitch that is situated next to the fabulous brand new state-of-the-art Sports Hall which opened in September 2020. These developments and other future projects are part of the Governors long term plan to ensure Bishopsgate continues to offer excellence in teaching along with progressive facilities.
The School also has a four-lane 25-metre swimming pool and swimming is included in the curriculum from Nursery. In addition, the school has a well equipped Design & Technology Suite and an upgraded IT Suite which includes touch-screen computers and the procurement of laptops and Chromebook for the pupils. The completion of a major upgrade of the School All Weather Facility, the Performing Arts Studio, the building of a new cricket square, and the redevelopment of the current all-weather surface has vastly enhanced the facilities.
Children may enter Bishopsgate from the age of 3 into our Nursery. Our trained staff and well-equipped Nursery ensure that each child is given the best possible start to life. There is a warm family atmosphere as we recognise how important it is for children to feel happy and secure. We place great emphasis on building a solid foundation of social skills and a love of learning, which will enable each child to settle confidently into school life. A wide variety of activities is on offer with plenty of opportunities for healthy outdoor learning for all year groups.
Beyond Nursery, a class teacher remains at the core of each child’s learning. Emphasis is placed on establishing a firm foundation in literacy and numeracy, but the curriculum is broad with a range of educational visits planned to enrich and extend the children’s learning. The teaching of French, Music, PE, Singing and Dance is provided by specialist teachers. Good use is made of our glorious grounds as an Outdoor Learning resource.
Form-based teaching continues in Years 3 and 4, but by Year 5 all teaching is by subject specialists. Programmes of study in Upper School are full and varied, covering the traditional academic subjects as well as Art, Design, Music, Computer Studies, PSHE and PE. The children are prepared carefully for entrance to a range of senior schools and we are proud of our record of success. We prepare children for 11+ entry to senior schools, but we also encourage our children to remain with us to age 13.
In Upper School, opportunities to represent the school in sports teams, plays, choirs and instrumental groups are all part of the ‘Bishopsgate Experience’. In addition, a busy programme of extracurricular activities ensures that all children have the opportunity to shine at something.
Music plays an essential part in the life of the school with many of our pupils enjoying individual music lessons. There are choirs and ensembles. Participation by children of all abilities, with ample opportunities to perform, is our aim. Drama productions, dance and public speaking events all provide additional occasions when the children can develop their presentation skills.
Our vibrant Art and Design Department occupies a spacious studio equipped with a kiln for ceramics and a printing press for design projects. There is an annual ArtsFest for the whole School and the children’s work is displayed proudly around the school and in our annual School magazine.
Team Games, Swimming, Rowing, Athletics, Dance, Golf, Tennis, Gymnastics and much more are all included in a varied and exciting sporting programme within the school day. An extensive programme of inter-school fixtures is arranged each term and we like to see as many parents in support as possible! We like to win, but our priorities are participation, enjoyment and teamwork.
A prospectus and further details can be obtained from the Admissions Office.
