Birkdale Prep School is a co-educational school specialising in quality education and care for children aged 4–11. Continuous education is offered from 11–18 at Birkdale Senior School. Birkdale Prep School is based at Clarke House, situated in a pleasant area near the University, close to the Senior School. The school has a firm Christian tradition and this, coupled with the size of the school, ensures that pupils develop their own abilities, whether academic or otherwise, to the full.
The Pre-Prep Department is based in a separate building, Belmayne House. The facilities are outstanding and designed specifically to meet the needs of 4–7 year olds. Specialist subject teaching across the curriculum starts at age 7 and setting in core subjects in the final two years enhances, still further, the pupil to teacher ratio.
The school has its own Matron and pastoral care is given high priority. Pupils are encouraged to join a wide variety of clubs and societies. Music plays a significant part in school life, both in and out of the timetable. There is a large choir, brass band and orchestra.
Cricket, Rugby and Football are played on the School’s own substantial playing fields, which are within easy reach of the school. Netball and Hockey are also played. A broad range of activities is available as part of the extensive extracurricular programme.
The majority of pupils pass into the Senior School.
