Overview. Belmont, Mill Hill Prep, is a co-educational prep day school in Mill Hill which educates boys and girls from ages 7 to 13. Belmont is just a short walk from Mill Hill School, which sits on 120 acres of magnificent parkland on the edge of the North London Green Belt and just 10 miles from Central London. It is a part of the Mill Hill Education Group, a charitable collection of independent schools.
Belmont is a warm and caring prep school which believes that the children’s happiness and wellbeing are integral to a fulfilling education. Entry at 7+ is automatic from Grimsdell, Mill Hill Pre Prep, and selective for external candidates. Entry at 11+ is selective and gives automatic transfer to Mill Hill School at 13+. The School achieves high academic standards, with a significant number of pupils regularly achieving academic, music, art, design, drama and sports awards. The School has a strong reputation for outstanding pastoral care and the personal development of every child, as well as a friendly environment in which pupils enjoy learning; the extracurricular programme is extensive and of high quality.
Academic. Belmont, Mill Hill Prep is proud to offer a curriculum that is academically rigorous and engaging and goes far beyond the national curriculum, in order to instil a love of learning in the pupils. The curriculum runs seamlessly through every school across the Mill Hill Education Group and is designed to prepare pupils for life in the 21st century. It teaches children to think creatively and critically, and builds flexible skills for a fast-changing world of new technologies. Teachers are highly skilled, motivated and love their work. Traditional teaching and learning methods are used, as well as innovative approaches using IT, inquiry-based projects and peer-to-peer learning.
Pastoral care. The School believes that a child who is happy and safe in their environment will flourish. The excellent pastoral care underpins all aspects of school life. Therefore, Belmont, Mill Hill Prep actively delivers the values of ‘Be Kind, Be Brave and Be You’ in every subject, activity, sporting or musical performance the pupils take part in. The backbone of the pastoral system is based on a team of outstanding tutors, who get to know every child and support them on each step of their journey through the School. The pastoral care is individually tailored through the mentoring programme and wellbeing clubs, and additional support for pupils and families is available, if necessary, through the team of School Counsellors.
Activities and sports. Over 100 clubs are run each term; a breadth and variety of activities are offered in each year group which guarantee that every child can find their niche. Pupils perform with skill, energy and commitment. The School has its own sports hall with a climbing wall and cricket nets, secure play areas and an adventure playground. The sports grounds are second to none, and they are set in a stunning landscape. With 40 acres, the School has maintained rugby and football pitches, Astroturf for hockey, netball courts and cricket squares (including artificial surfaces), cricket nets, tennis courts, and a woodland cross-country course. In addition, the School makes use of further facilities on offer at Mill Hill School, including sports fields, Fives Courts, swimming pool and theatre.
