Barrow Hills School is an independent, co-educational day school and nursery.
We strongly believe that a happy child is a successful one. Children are challenged within a positive, diverse community of learners and are stretched at a time appropriate to them, helping them to aspire to achieve their individual best. Balanced with an ethos of strong pastoral care, children become well-rounded high achievers.
Teaching is based on the understanding that children vary in academic ability, learn and mature at different rates and discover areas of the curriculum which they enjoy and excel at. The family feel of the School is evident and the children clearly benefit from being members of a small community. Class sizes allow for more individual attention from staff, who value and understand every child and spend quality time with them to enhance their learning and confidence. The intimate atmosphere is a particular strength of the School and enables us to build warm relationships with our families.
Education at Barrow Hills is for life, not just the classroom and we are committed to being leaders in Prep School education; promoting mutual respect, curiosity of mind and independence of spirit; prepared for greater things. Our extensive grounds provide excellent facilities that encourage play and exploration. Children experience a wide variety of activities in order to develop their abilities without fear of failure.
We provide devices for every child in the Prep department. Access is also provided for younger children along with Wi-Fi, large screen digital displays and air printers across the school.
Music and theatre is in our DNA and our children are part of a culture that sees everyone, every year, be part of a production. Sport matters; by Year 3 all children have five hours of sport a week, including competitive matches against rival schools. Major team sports are: hockey, netball, rounders, tennis, cricket, swimming and some lacrosse for girls; football, rugby, hockey, swimming and cricket for boys. We have strong links with excellent senior schools, in particular with King Edward’s Witley, our partner school. We are proud of our 100% success at Common Entrance with all children gaining entry to their chosen senior school at 13+. Many of our children are awarded scholarships. We offer a broad range of extracurricular activities and a comprehensive programme of educational and residential visits.
Our main building is an attractive Arts and Crafts house, with 33 acres of beautiful gardens, playing fields and woods. We are close to Guildford, Godalming and Haslemere.
Key entry points: Nursery, Kindy, Reception, Year 3, Year 7.
Charitable status. Barrow Hills School Witley is a Registered Charity, number 311997.
