Barfield Prep School, set in 12 acres of beautiful grounds, was awarded ‘Excellent’ in all eight areas of inspection by the ISI in June 2023. The school is co-educational and takes children between the ages of 2 and 11 years.
In 2021, the School underwent a complete brand identity change. Headmaster Andy Boyle, who has now been at the school for four years, felt that it seemed like the right time, alongside the school transitioning from a 13+ school to an 11+ school, to consolidate his vision for the school and to fully engage the staff, parents and pupils in the process.
Our brand defines our culture, so it’s essential that it represents who we are, what we believe, and what we value. We have kept our owl that has been the school’s emblem since it was founded in 1933, but modernised it and tried to capture the school’s key values of Integrity, Compassion, Resilience, Tolerance and Enthusiasm in its creation.
The brand relaunch coincided with the official opening of a £1 million+ investment building project which has provided the School with fantastic new classrooms, a science lab and a food tech room. We also opened our brand new eco-dining hall in Spring 2024.
Barfield School is a family-orientated school with an excellent reputation for high academic standards and caring staff. Facilities include an Outdoor Treehouse Classroom, Auditorium, ICT Suite, Library, Music and Music practice rooms, Art and DT rooms. The school has a flourishing PE and Outdoor Pursuits Department, with a full-size climbing wall, high ropes course and zip line. There is a magnificent indoor heated swimming pool and children are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Activity courses are run throughout the school holidays and are enjoyed by children from Reception to Year 6.
Children are taught in small classes and are prepared for Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations, as well as Grammar School entry.
The nursery is an integral part of the school. It is bright and airy, with plenty of green free-flow space. Open 50 weeks of the year from 8.00 am to 6.15 pm, experienced and qualified staff nurture, encourage and support all the children, ensuring they feel both happy and secure. The children have use of all the school facilities and access to specialist teachers for swimming and music.
Visitors are always welcome. Don't hesitate to get in touch with the school.
Charitable status. Barfield School is part of the Prep Schools Trust, which is a Registered Charity, number 309639.
