With an engaging curriculum designed to capture the imaginations of its boys and a reputation for outstanding academic, musical and sporting achievements, Altrincham Preparatory School is widely regarded as one of the very best schools for 2–11 year olds in the North-West.
Altrincham Preparatory School believes in delivering academic excellence; its boys go on to some of the best selective grammar schools in the region, including Altrincham Grammar School and The Manchester Grammar School. Yet while recent examination results are hugely impressive, Altrincham Preparatory School is also a music school, an arts and technology school and a sports school. The culture of participation means the boys want to be part of everything and two full-time specialist PE teachers have guided the boys to national finals in a range of sports.
Altrincham Preparatory School was successfully inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in May 2023, receiving the highest grading of ‘Excellent’ for both the pupils’ academic achievement and the pupils’ personal development. The school was also found to be compliant in all areas of the inspection. The pupils demonstrate an excellent attitude to learning and show strong self-confidence, perseverance and motivation. The inspection team recognised that the ‘pupils are achieving highly compared to national standards’ and are ‘academically well prepared for entry to their future school’. Pastoral care is at the heart of everything the school does and it is ‘successful in building a community which encourages all its members to develop a healthy respect for each other’.
Altrincham Preparatory School is committed to providing such high-quality education in a happy, safe and state-of-the-art environment. The Early Years Foundation Stage Centre at Bank Place opened in 2015 with a beautiful 16-place Nursery for boys aged 2 and above feeding into the Pre-School. Boys there are able to access the adjacent Bell Field for outdoor exploration, while the use of Bowdon Cricket, Hockey and Squash club’s facilities means games can take place on high-quality artificial and grass surfaces. With bright, well-equipped and attractive classrooms, Altrincham Preparatory School is welcoming, nurturing, and most important of all, happy.
