Woodard schools form the largest group of Anglican schools in England and Wales. In addition to the above list of incorporated schools, a number of schools in the independent and maintained sectors choose to be associated or affiliated, respectively. Woodard also sponsors academies. The schools are not exclusive and take pupils of all faiths and of none. In total over 30,000 pupils are taught in schools throughout the group.
This unique partnership of schools, independent and state, boarding and day, junior and senior, co-educational and single-sex, is united by a determination to provide a first-class holistic education within a distinctive Christian ethos. The schools were founded by Nathaniel Woodard in the nineteenth century and aim to prepare children from a wide variety of backgrounds for responsibility, leadership and service in today’s world.
The schools seek to provide flexible, stimulating, demanding and appropriate schemes of academic study together with a rich variety of sporting, artistic and recreational opportunities. We encourage personal success, self-confidence and self-respect whilst also stressing the importance of responsible citizenship, high moral values and a commitment to use one’s gifts in the service of others.
With the geographical spread and diversity of schools included in the group it is able to offer parents a wide range of educational options for their children. Woodard incorporated schools operate bursary and scholarship schemes including all classes of concession. Fees vary from school to school and are set locally.
The Woodard Corporation is a Registered Charity (No. 1096270) and Company (No. 4659710). The objects of the charity are to promote and extend education (including spiritual, moral, social, cultural and physical education) in accordance with the doctrines and principles of the Church of England/Church in Wales by directly or indirectly carrying on schools.
