A superb quality of life. Lomond School is a co-educational independent school, for children aged 3 to 18, positioned in the elegant suburbs of Helensburgh, a coastal town located only 10 minutes from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. We make the most of our unique location by providing and encouraging participation in a wide range of opportunities for outdoor learning, sports and activities. Our young people enjoy a superb quality of life in a beautiful and safe environment.
Personalised education. At Lomond School we believe passionately that education should be about supporting our young people to develop and grow, both academically and personally, as rounded individuals with strong values who are ultimately prepared to embark confidently and successfully on their life beyond Lomond School.
We uphold this commitment with six Guiding Principles which are delivered throughout our curriculum and co-curriculum. These include: Internationalism; Environmentalism; Adventure; Leadership; Lifelong Learning and Service. To find out more visit our website at www.lomondschool.com. As an International Baccalaureate World School we are proud to offer our senior students the choice of studying the IB Diploma Programme, IB Career-related Programme with HNC or NC over their final 2 years, after SQA National 5s.
Inclusive ethos. Our focus is on preparing our students for their future by ensuring that they learn the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century while developing the traditional values and qualities that they require to be responsible and active global citizens.
We provide small class sizes, an extensive programme of extracurricular activities, attention to the individual and a strong record of academic achievement which opens the door to allow new experiences, skills and talents to be explored. All aspects of development are accorded importance, be they academic, musical, dramatic, sporting or in wider outdoor activities.
The Lomond family. Our experienced pastoral care team ensures the welfare and onward progression of all of our students. Our young people are well known by staff and teachers and we see ourselves as a large family where any issues or problems are identified and dealt with promptly and effectively.
Extracurricular and outdoor learning. Our location means that there is a particular emphasis on outdoor pursuits. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is, without doubt, a significant feature and we have enjoyed great success carrying out expeditions both locally and abroad. Many of our trips and excursions revolve around our passion for the outdoors and have included trekking in Morocco, canoeing in Norway, skiing in Austria and travelling to Africa to help a number of educational charities there.
We also build many cultural and educational trips into the school year with visits to Paris, Berlin, Brussels and Iceland, as well as Hockey and Rugby tours to South Africa or more locally. We support and encourage our young people to make the most of the opportunities available, recognising both the immediate and long-term benefit of the personal development these experiences and activities can offer.
Living at Lomond. Our boarding facility adds a distinctive dimension to the school; the mix of cultures and backgrounds enriches our curriculum and co-curriculum, supporting all of our pupils to develop their global awareness and understanding.
Our infrastructure boasts a mix of modern, purpose-built structure and characterful listed buildings, which make for an inspirational setting for our young people. We continually invest in our facilities and take a cutting-edge approach to every new project we initiate.
Entry and scholarships. Means-tested bursaries are available for entry between T2 and S6 with fee assistance ranging from 10% to 100% depending on circumstances. In addition, we offer discounts for the Armed Forces and are a CEA-approved school. Scholarships are also available in the fields of academic excellence, creative arts, music and sport.
Lomond is a non-selective school. Part of our admission process, however, is an assessment in Mathematics and English for 11- to 18-year-olds. For younger pupils, placement in classes is the main requirement, while for senior pupils reports and examination results are given due weighting.
