Truro School Prep opened as Treliske School in 1936 in the former residence and estate of Sir George Smith. The school lies in extensive and secluded grounds to the west of the cathedral city of Truro, three miles from Truro School. The grounds command fine views of the neighbouring countryside. The drive to the school off the A390 is half a mile long and Truro Golf Course surrounds the school, producing a campus of beauty and seclusion.
The keynote of the school is a busy and positive atmosphere in which children learn the value of contributing positively to the school community and the wider world. Academics are naturally paramount but the curriculum is complemented by a vast and exciting array of extracurricular clubs, trips and activities, including: Bushcraft, a myriad of sports, ecoclub, Shakespeare performance, golf, contemporary dance, puppetry, badminton, water polo, samba, chess and many more. The approach is based firmly in Christian beliefs and the school is proud of its Methodist foundation.
Building development has kept pace with modern expectations and Truro School Prep has its own large sports hall, an indoor heated swimming pool, a Design and Technology workshop, an ICT Suite and purpose-built Pre-Prep.
The games programme is designed to encourage all children, and the excellent facilities, coupled with the talented and professional staff, enable us to offer a rich variety of sporting and recreational pursuits. There are over 70 clubs that run before school, during lunch break or after school (from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm). Activities include sailing, surfing, cookery, bushcraft, chess, drama and dance.
There is a strong school tradition in music and drama and the arts. Children may choose to learn a musical instrument from the full orchestral range. Performance opportunities are many and varied from informal to grand scale: each year, the Spring concert (at the Hall for Cornwall), with Truro School, showcases talent which flourish in both schools.
Close links are maintained with the Senior School and almost every pupil progresses to Truro School; the only Independent Heads’ Conference School in Cornwall (see entry in HMC section). The prospectus and further details can be obtained from admissions@truroschool.com. The Head, Rob Morse, will be pleased to show prospective parents around the school. Charitable status. Truro School is part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, which is a registered Charity, number 1142794.
