Boys and girls are prepared for scholarship and entrance to all Independent Senior Schools. Hockey, rugby, football, gymnastics, netball, rounders, cricket, athletics and tennis are taught on spacious playing fields with pavilion and hard tennis courts and hockey astro, which adjoin the school. The school also has a purpose-built Sports Hall (4 badminton court size), indoor swimming pool and dance studio. Regular tours are made to Guernsey and England for sporting fixtures.
The school has flourishing and well-equipped computer, art and engineering departments, in addition to networked computers across the school, including individual devices available for every pupil in Years 1 to Shell. A wide variety of clubs and hobbies function within the school, including activities such as Martial Arts, coding, engineering, yoga, cross-country and many other outdoor activities. Our Shell Year (Y9) take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s (Bronze) Award and play an integral role in the School’s Social Impact programme.
Music, drama and art (including pottery), are all encouraged and a wide range of musical instruments are taught. There are three school choirs, two orchestras and a number of ensemble groups. The choirs participate locally and nationally in events and competitions.
For Middle and Senior School pupils there is an annual Activities Week, which takes Years 6, 7 and 8 to different locations in the UK and France; Year 5 take part in island-based activities. Most years a party of children from Years 3 to Shell ski in Europe.
Consideration, Challenge, Curiosity and Community form the School’s ethos and are important aspects of behaviour that the School holds dear.
The academic and physical development, in addition to the spiritual, moral and cultural growth of the whole child, is the main aim of the school and every child is encouraged to do ‘a little better’ than anyone thought possible.
