The School’s main building is a fine Jacobean house with extensive grounds. Boys and girls are prepared for Pre-Test, Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations to senior independent schools. The school is organised into four departments: Nursery (3–4), Pre-Prep (4–6), Middle School (7–8), and Upper School (9–13). St Hugh's is opening a Senior School in September 2026, which will go to 16. Careful liaison ensures a strong thread of continuity throughout the school. The main entry points are at 3, 4, 7 and 9.
The School is not academically selective and both welcomes and accepts children from all backgrounds and a range of academic abilities. We aim to foster confidence and a love of learning across this range: an impressive pre-test, scholarship and CE record and the provision of specialist support both bear testimony to our inclusive approach. The arts and sport feature very strongly and pupils are encouraged to develop their talents and interests as broadly as possible. The school delivers academic and pastoral excellence and wellbeing, as well as focussing on success for every child.
St Hugh’s is described by the Good Schools Guide as a school which “personifies what is best in prep school education”.
