St Gerard's is a small independent day school that has a happy, secure, family atmosphere in which the pupils thrive. Since its foundation over a hundred years ago the school has maintained a kind and caring ethos which also sets high standards of behaviour for the students.
Children from the earliest years learn to share with and care for others and the older children work and interact in an atmosphere free from bullying that encourages them to be resilient, compassionate and trustworthy. There are lots of different activities that the children can take part in to enrich their learning experience.
Through the hard work of staff and pupils and the support of parents we hope to develop analytical, critical and compassionate thinkers who are capable of achieving happiness and success in their life. We achieve fantastic results year on year and last year were ranked second in the UK for small independent schools. We are very proud of our school and all that is achieved here. The best advertisement for our school is our students and we invite you to come and meet them and see the school in action.
During the summer term 2022 we welcomed Estyn to the school. Inspectors spent a week in the school. They certainly managed to get a detailed view of the school and we are delighted with the excellent findings in the report. You can read the full report here: www.estyn.llyw.cymru/inspection-reports.
Our senior school offers a small educational community that is focused on the potential of each pupil. Our pupils, staff and parents work in partnership towards our aim of achieving optimum progress together. The senior school at St Gerard’s is located in the original convent building with two more recent extensions to house purpose-built classrooms. The senior school is in close proximity to the junior school. This allows the interchange of staff expertise and the opportunity for interaction between junior and senior pupils with the aim of benefiting the pupils’ education. At the senior school our teachers are subject specialists and individual year groups move from classroom to classroom to curricular need. Each member of staff in the senior school is linked to a form group to help monitor pupils’ personal welfare as well as their academic progress. Our small class sizes in the senior school allow for individual attention for each pupil. Teachers are aware of individual pupils’ strengths and target individual areas for improvement. Our junior school offers every child the opportunity to achieve his or her potential. Our children, staff and parents work in partnership towards our aim of achieving together.
Arrangements can be made to visit throughout the whole of the year.
