We are a fully co-educational school from age 2 through to 16. Through a rich curriculum, small teaching groups and exemplary pastoral care, St Edmund’s seeks to provide an excellent all round education by encouraging its pupils to achieve their very best in all that they do. “I like St Ed’s, I can be myself.” These words, spoken by one of our pupils, capture much of what we strive to do at St Edmund’s: to instil in every child a sense of self-esteem and belonging by building on their own talents, opening their eyes to new ones and giving them focused and personal support whenever it is needed. Academically, it is an approach that continues to pay dividends, with our pupils going on to a wide range of senior schools at both 11+ and 13+ and 16+ including St Edmund’s Senior.
Yet of equal importance are the discoveries, excitements and good old-fashioned fun that St Edmund’s Lower Prep, Prep and Senior create inside our 40 beautiful acres with facilities including professional MTB trails, an immaculate 9-hole golf course, indoor swimming pool, cross-country running course, games fields, a floodlit all-weather sports pitch and Dance and Drama Studio. A new multi-use sports hall opened in January 2021 and purpose built dining hall in 2023. The list of co-curricular activities is endless at St Ed’s, from mountain biking to cookery, Judo to den building and from street dance to giant chess, including our unique optional Saturday Activity programme that allows us greater depth in the number of activities on offer to our pupils.
St Edmund’s Senior School offers a rare and unique educational experience for those who join us. In contrast to the many larger institutions available, our dedication to small teaching groups and our strong sense of community creates an environment where pupils’ confidence can be invigorated. Through high-quality teaching and resources, our aim is to provide our pupils with an inspiring and notable experience that naturally encourages an appreciation for lifelong independent learning. Our broad curriculum across Forms 7 to 11 presents a firm foundation upon which to make future educational choices, and our distinctive tutorial system enables our pupils a platform to discuss progress and achievements as well as any pastoral issues that require guidance and consideration. In 2024 St. Edmund’s again achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results and posted a fantastic 97% pass rate (grades 4-9) against a national average of 67%. At a time when grades are falling nationally, at St Edmund’s the pass rate continues to improve.
All pupils achieved a 100% pass rate in Maths, Biology, Art, Latin, Drama, Spanish, History, Music, Sports Science, and PE, and a 99% Pass Rate across English and Maths. Almost a fifth of passes were at the most demanding grade 9 and more than a third of candidates were awarded grade 9 in one or more subjects. The proportion of grades awarded at 7-9 (the old A*/A grades) was an impressive 45% compared to a national average of 22%.
During our latest Independent Schools Inspection in October 2024 the report noted, “Pupils are happy, well-motivated, self-confident individuals who are proud of their school.”
Charitable status. St Edmund’s School Trust Limited is a Registered Charity, number 278301. Its aim is the education of children.
