We see that our ambitious, co-educational Junior School is the perfect starting point for pupils to make their first marks on their St Dunstan’s shield as they begin their College adventure, learning who they are and discovering a true love of lifelong learning from the very earliest stages. Our academic ambition is cultivated by a balance of rigour, challenge, immersive real-life learning experiences and independent exploration.
Our pupils thrive from our forward-thinking and innovative approach to education, where they are well-prepared for the unexpected of tomorrow’s world and ready to embrace any challenges that may come their way in the future. Pupils from Nursery to Year 6 are able to make excellent progress and achieve their academic potential in every area of our curriculum, whilst also reaping the benefits of the broad co-curricular programme available to them. The St Dunstan’s curriculum is engaging, broad, balanced and unashamedly aspirational for each and every pupil, regardless of their starting point. We see that it equips them with the necessary skills they will need to thrive as proactive citizens within a rapidly changing world.
There is no better time to join St Dunstan’s College Junior School. True to our forward-thinking and ambitious approach to education, we were absolutely delighted to move into our new building development in April 2021. Our new Junior School includes state-of-the-art, bright, modern and stimulating working environments, as well as dedicated specialist spaces for art, ICT, music and performance, along with a new library and Woodland Classroom. In addition, whether your child is in Nursery or Year 6, they will have their own dedicated outdoor learning space on each floor. Redesigned Junior School playing fields and two multi-use Games Areas will also ensure pupils have unrestricted access to age-appropriate, exceptional sporting facilities. With the new Junior School building as the first phase of a five-phase project, your child will reap the benefits of our first-class facilities from their very first day in school, through to their final day of Sixth Form.
Our pupils see that through learning, they gain a better sense of who they are, what they can achieve, and what they will be able to accomplish in the future. Learning at St Dunstan’s does not just take place within our state-of-the-art classrooms; learning opportunities are embraced and appreciated in any setting, whether it is through our co-curricular ‘Forder’ Programme (with over 80 activities taking place each week), performing a production in our Great Hall or on the professional stage, by facing a fear on a residential visit, or playing a match to understand the benefits of teamwork and sportsmanship. Our pupils relish the learning for their own personal development and fulfilment.
We take pride in our broad and balanced curriculum which is taught by our highly-skilled teachers and provides children with the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to develop into curious, creative and courageous individuals. No day is ever the same at St Dunstan’s and it is through our rich, exciting and vast selection of activities that we can focus on a holistic approach to education, in order that our pupils can thrive as well-rounded individuals, who feel happy and safe in school. They enjoy forming positive and trusting relationships with both their Form Teacher and specialist teachers in art, design technology, drama, music, ICT, swimming, PE, Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish in Pre-Prep and Spanish and French in Prep) and Stuart lessons (PSHE). As such, our pupils make rapid progress in every subject, and it is through exposure to a number of subject areas and enrichment opportunities that our pupils thrive. Our offering enables pupils to discover what sparks their interest, relishing new skills, but within a supportive environment, created by strong teacher/pupil relationships.
Boys and Girls are admitted at all ages from 3+ to 10+ but principally at 3+ and 4+ (Nursery and Reception) and at 7+ (Year 3). We also welcome applications for occasional place entry within the other Junior School year groups.
