St Dominic’s Grammar School Brewood provides education for over 210 girls and boys from the ages of 4 to 18.
Development of the ‘whole person’ is at the heart of our school. We believe each child has special talents and we work to enable them to achieve their full potential within a caring environment. We nurture the pupils academically, socially, creatively and spiritually.
Teaching & Learning. Small class sizes facilitates individual attention so strengths and weaknesses are diagnosed and all work is tailored to match individual’s needs. We believe in a close partnership with parents, keeping you informed about your child’s progress.
Curriculum. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum with enhancement and enrichment. The National Curriculum is taught throughout the school. This is enhanced with additional subjects including performing arts, dance, drama and singing which are integrated into the weekly timetable. We offer a comprehensive range of subjects at AS and A Level.
Sports. We offer a broad curriculum including netball, hockey, dance, gymnastics, aerobics, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, rounders, tennis, athletics and cross-country. Our all-inclusive extra-curricular programmes provide further sporting variety including gymnastics, modern dance and ballet, with all abilities encouraged to attend.
There is a comprehensive fixtures programme incorporating inter-house events and annual Preparatory and Senior Sports Days. We take part in ISA sporting events at local, regional and national level.
The facilities include brand new outdoor cricket nets, newly-resurfaced netball and tennis courts, hockey, football and rounders pitches and an athletics track. We also have an excellent fully-equipped sports hall with cricket nets.
Expressive Arts. We are renowned for our musical and dramatic excellence. Our contemporary Performing Arts Centre houses a Drama and Dance Studio, a Music Suite and a Recording Studio. Pupils are encouraged to join the choirs, play an instrument, take up dance, singing or tread the boards. Throughout the year there are a variety of performances ranging from the Pre-Preparatory Christmas play, to productions such as Thoroughly Modern Millie and High School Musical. The pupils participate in many local and regional competitions, take part in local festivals and public speaking events. Many do LAMDA examinations and all Year 7s take English Speaking Board examinations.
Extra-Curricular Activities. Four days a week there is an all-inclusive after-school programme where pupils can undertake a variety of activities ranging from The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme to debating, cooking, bushcraft, Young Enterprise and STEM Club.
Throughout the year, pupils are encouraged to become involved in fundraising for local and national charities. These activities help each child develop a good community spirit with respect and consideration for others.
Pastoral Care. Our outstanding pastoral care system and Christian ethos create an atmosphere which fosters trust and mutual respect between pupils and teachers. Pupils feel relaxed and secure and develop their self-respect, self-confidence, personal discipline and consideration for others.
Examination Results. Our pupils achieve outstanding exam results year on year outperforming the national averages of both comprehensive and independent schools at Key Stage 2, GCSE and A Level. In 2021 we achieved a 100% pass rate in all subjects at both GCSE and A Level; English Baccalaureate was 94%.
Facilities. We have a purpose-built Preparatory building, which encompasses a brand new state of the art Science Laboratory, a Preparatory Hall, IT room, Home Economics room and library. The Senior building has fully-equipped science laboratories, IT room and library. All classrooms have networked computers and interactive whiteboards. The Sixth Form and Performing Arts Centre is a modern, state-of-the-art facility housing the latest technology in music, IT and the Performing Arts. It has a common room with terraces and a well-equipped Library with Wi-Fi technology.
Admissions. Although selective, we draw our pupils from a wide ability range, which makes our record of results outstanding. Assessment is made during trial days at school.
