Welcome to S. Anselm’s School located in the heart of the glorious Peak District National Park, the only independent co-educational prep school in Derbyshire.
Regarded as a beacon of excellence in all that it does, S. Anselm’s offers pupils outstanding academic, sporting and extracurricular opportunities, alongside a nurturing and inspirational environment, to ensure the very best grounding for their future success.
We actively welcome children of all abilities to the school, and pride ourselves on cherishing each child, allowing their full potential to shine through.
Situated on an 18-acre campus in the Peak District, S. Anselm’s children are immersed in space and beauty, with numerous opportunities to explore. The school has an indoor swimming pool, 5 netball courts, a 4-badminton court sports hall, a theatre with a permanent stage and tiered seating, a dedicated music block, 2 fully equipped Science laboratories, an Art room with access to a kiln, a DT room, an innovation centre, Engineering lab and library.
At the heart of our values is creativity – in thought, action and community. We encourage children to be creative in their learning and play and believe passionately in providing an environment where individuality is explored confidently and positively.
Our small class sizes allow teachers to plan lessons that support each child as an individual. Every pupil is encouraged in a manner that enables them to reach their full potential, with all pupils achieving places at their preferred senior schools, and many earning scholarships based on various talents, whether academic, athletic, musical, dramatic, artistic or as well-rounded individuals.
Recent investment has been made in IT, enhancing interactive whiteboards, tablets and equipment for relevant lessons and learning, even though the school enforces a strict no phone policy.
Boarding at S. Anselm’s offers a dynamic, supportive and caring community where pupils thrive and create lasting memories. Boarders enjoy a varied programme of evening activities, chosen largely by the children themselves, including board games, swimming, sports, music and fiercely fought tournaments of dodgeball or man hunt. Our weekends are filled with a diverse range of activities, providing a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.
S. Anselm’s pupils are encouraged to be themselves. They thrive in arts, on the sports field and on the stage, and above all, enjoy being part of a school that allows them to remain children for as long as possible.
This is a kind, caring and tolerant school and we are quite sure this wonderful environment will make a lasting impression on all who visit.
