Bedford Greenacre Independent School was formed on 1 May 2021 by the merger of Rushmoor School and St Andrew’s School and Nursery.
Rushmoor School moved to Bedford in 1918 and had grown and improved over 108 years by investing greatly to provide excellent facilities. Rushmoor formed an alliance in 2013 with St Andrew’s School and the formal merger and rebranding was the next step in this process. St Andrew’s School had an equally strong reputation in Bedford, initially opening in 1896.
We appreciate the importance of selecting the right school for your child; childhood is something which can be experienced only once. With this in mind, and the belief that children learn best when they feel happy and secure, we aim to develop in our pupils a lifelong interest in learning – one which encompasses the full range of intellectual, cultural, artistic and sporting achievements of our society.
We believe in individual care and attention. Visitors to the school are impressed by the friendly, positive attitude of the pupils and their energetic sense of purpose. The staff are caring and understanding, yet know the importance of effort and personal discipline in enabling pupils to achieve the highest academic standards.
At the school we ensure that all children have opportunities to develop their intellectual, physical and creative gifts, across a broad and balanced curriculum. Children in Reception and Junior classes benefit greatly from a wide range of specialist teachers.
We emphasise the individual, recognising that all children are different and value each child in their own right. Encouraging children to develop their strengths improves their self-esteem, enabling them to find their role in the community. We promote children’s personal development, encouraging lively and enquiring minds, respect for others and a high regard for truth. The stability of continuous education, spanning the school age ranges, is a major factor in helping us achieve this.
We pride ourselves on our ability to integrate children with Specific Learning Differences within mainstream school life, while still providing extended challenges for our gifted and talented pupils. We believe that every child should be allowed to embrace any aspect of the curriculum. Enabling children to receive support without undermining their confidence amongst their peers is of primary importance.
In 2019, under our former names, we won the ISA Award for Outstanding Provision for Learning Support. We have also won the ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Early Years. We boast successful sporting records, with many pupils gaining county and national honours. Under our former name, we won the ISA Award for Outstanding Provision in Sport in 2016. Children have also gained much success in national and local drama competitions and festivals, together with art and photography competitions.
We are excited about the future as we now have a new, purpose-built school with excellent facilities in all departments. To find out more, please visit our website www.bedfordgreenacre.co.uk.
