Hailed by the ISI as an “outstandingly happy and successful school”, Rookwood is an independent non-selective day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 2–18 years in Andover, Hampshire.
Described as “warm, welcoming and nurturing”, Rookwood is known for its family atmosphere and strong pastoral care which encourages each and every child to achieve their very best with excellent results. In 2022 40% of all GCSEs were awarded at Grade 7 or above and 94% of our students achieved GCSEs at Grade 4 or above.
Set in almost ten acres of private grounds Rookwood has an impressive range of amenities including a state-of-the-art sports hall, outdoor swimming pool, excellent art and science facilities. Rookwood’s Private Sixth Form opened in September 2021.
Both Music and Drama thrive at Rookwood, with every child encouraged to take part, whilst the Physical Education department is equally busy with several pupils advancing to represent their favourite sports at national level in recent years.
In addition to its many tangible achievements Rookwood is committed to delivering excellent pastoral care and takes great pride in seeing its pupils develop into confident, resilient and principled young adults. Rookwood’s boarding provision was recently rated as ‘excellent’ in all areas by the ISI with boarders receiving a unique ‘home-from-home’ experience. Family-style meal times, experienced and supportive boarding staff and busy weekends all combine to ensure that Rookwood’s boarders receive the best possible care.

Admission is by school reports and individual visits. Scholarships are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Means-tested bursaries are available throughout the school.
Rookwood is conveniently situated close to Andover town centre and less than 10 minutes’ walk to Andover railway station, with good services to Salisbury, Basingstoke and London Waterloo. By road, there is easy access from the A303 and A343, with the journey from Andover to London taking about one and a half hours. School bus services are also available from Newbury and North West Hampshire.
