Palmers Green High School, founded in 1905 by Miss Alice Hum, has provided an exceptional education for over 115 years. At PGHS we specialise in educating girls, challenging them to achieve their full potential within our warm and friendly school environment.
The School motto, “By Love Serve One Another” was carefully chosen and it still epitomises our special ethos where individuals are nurtured, successes are celebrated and their contribution to the community is greatly valued.
We provide an inspiring, challenging and supportive environment through which all pupils are given opportunities to be inquisitive, independent and develop a lifelong love of learning.
PGHS is a very special ‘through-school’ where pupils progress in a familiar setting and benefit from seamless transitions across the key stages in the Lower and Senior Schools. There is an authentic feeling of being one family where strong friendships are formed and extend beyond year groups.
All sections of the school, from the Nursery through to the Seniors, enjoy being part of our ‘one school’ community. Preps use the same facilities as the GCSE pupils in some subjects e.g. Art, Music, PE and D&T, and Years 5 & 6 enjoy Science in the laboratories. Throughout, small class sizes and excellent teaching enable rapid progress, whilst exciting extra-curricular activities encourage pupils to develop into well-rounded individuals.
Our purpose-built Nursery is designed for 3–4 year old girls, most of whom transfer to Reception at PGHS. Lower School classes from Reception through to Year 6 benefit hugely from the encouragement and expertise of their class teachers and teaching assistants. Favourable teaching group sizes, light and airy classrooms and access to Senior School facilities all lead to an inspirational learning environment. This is enriched by specialist teaching in Art, D&T, Drama, French, Spanish, Music and PE – frequently in half-class groups.
In the Senior School, small class sizes (an average of only 10 at GCSE) and a broad range of extra-curricular activities enriches the pupils’ experience. In 2023, 41% of GCSE/IGCSE grades were A*/9/8 and 69% were A*/9–A/7.
Former pupils enjoy coming back to share their news with current pupils. Recent leavers have followed Sixth Form courses at The Henrietta Barnett School, St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School, The Latymer School, Dame Alice Owen’s School, Woodhouse College, Haberdashers’ Girls’ School, North London Collegiate School, Aldenham School, Channing, Haileybury and Roedean. Popular university destinations include Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Exeter, Glasgow, King’s College London, Liverpool, London School of Economics, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, University College London, University of East Anglia and Warwick.
Palmers Green High School is recognised for its all-round excellence in a small and nurturing environment and parents can be reassured that PGHS pupils not only attain excellent results in relation to their abilities and aptitudes, but also grow in confidence and poise as members of this very special school community.
Fees per term (2023-2024). Nursery £3,835 (Full time), Nursery £2,350 (Part time); Reception–Year 2 £4,455; Years 3–6 £4,770; Years 7–11 £6,375.
