Notre Dame Prep School was originally founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1864. The school transferred to its present site in 1971 and is now a Limited Company with charitable status. The school maintains the traditions and the spirit of the Sisters of Notre Dame and the former name and ethos.
As a Catholic school we endeavour to nurture a love of God through Jesus Christ in all the children. The school has an ethos of love and care and embraces children of all faiths or none.
Children are treated as individuals, respected, nurtured and encouraged to embrace and fulfil their potential in all areas of school life. We have excellent links with High Schools in both the maintained and independent sectors.
The school achieves well above average results in external tests and has a strong academic reputation. Children are prepared carefully for entry to selective independent schools. Subjects include English, Maths, Science, Computing, Design and Technology, Art, Geography, PE, History, Music, RE, French and Personal, Social and Health Education.
The school has a very strong musical tradition and has a wide range of extracurricular musical activities on offer including Choir, Chamber Choir, Recorder, Piano, Guitar, Flute, Violin, Saxophone, Clarinet lessons, Drums and Singing. Particularly strong singers are able to audition for chorister positions for St John’s Cathedral which is a 1,000-yard walk from school.
Sports include Football, Cricket, Rugby, Netball, Rounders, Hockey, Tennis and Swimming.
The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities including Speech and Drama, Chess, Cookery, Debating, Photography, Arts and Crafts, Science, Sewing, Young Explorers, Creative Writing, Badminton and other sports and activities.
Catering is provided in house and lunches and dinners are excellent. We have an After-School Activities Club which runs until 5.45 pm incorporating homework club (Prep) and games activities for younger children. Holiday clubs are available in school holidays at agreed times.
