Moorland School is a thriving co-educational day and boarding school located in the historic town of Clitheroe within the picturesque Ribble Valley, in the North-West of England. The school enjoys excellent transport links to Manchester. We have an outstandingly beautiful site with more than 15 acres of grounds. Nearly half of the children at Moorland are boarders and we find it makes for a good social mix with our day pupils from the surrounding area. The opening of our purpose-built new building means our boarders can enjoy modern and spacious facilities, fully equipped with satellite television and Wi-Fi. Moorland can now offer the seamless transition from GCSE to A level or BTEC study, through our thriving new Sixth Form Centre, which provides our students with the opportunity to settle in one place rather than having to move from school to school. Furthermore, the School boasts an outstanding elite football and elite ballet, unique to any British boarding school. These courses are led by field professionals in their respective areas.
Admission to Moorland. Parents and children are encouraged to visit the school to meet the Headteacher and see the school in action. Boarding or Day children are also welcome to attend Moorland for a one or two day ‘taster visit’.
Kindergarten & Nursery. As well as having its own indoor soft-play area, the nursery also has a large outdoor play area within its extensive grounds, with unbroken views over Waddington Fell. The Nursery’s superb layout of colourful rooms and equipment make it an ideal and exceptional learning environment.
Junior School. The Preparatory Department takes children between the ages of 4 and 11. The children have their own play area and IT suite and benefit from using the facilities of the Senior School such as science laboratories and sports hall.
The children follow Key Stages 1 and 2 of the National Curriculum, with particular emphasis on numeracy and literacy. Our small class sizes allow every child to read to the Teacher on a daily basis. French is also included in the Junior curriculum.
The Senior School follows the criteria set down in the National Curriculum. We enter our pupils for the Standard Attainment Tests and for GCSE at the end of Key stage 4.
Ballet at Moorland. Moorland International Ballet Academy embodies the values of being welcoming and diverse, motivating and enthusiastic, vibrant and ever-changing, brave and valiant, confident and fulfilled.
These principles create a nurturing and inclusive environment where students thrive, constantly evolve, and embrace their unique artistic journeys with courage and pride. Under the expert tutelage of ballet directors, and former professional dancers, Simon and Lynsey Kidd, students at Moorland consistently achieve outstanding results and move on to further their own professional careers.
Football at Moorland. Moorland School has produced many Academy-level and professional players. The school is recognised at a regional, national and international level as being the recruiting ground for many of the leading clubs and academies. Our Football Academy Director and Coach, Matthew Derbyshire, enjoyed a professional career playing for top-flight teams both in the UK and overseas and brings an invaluable wealth of experience and deep passion for football development.
Pastoral care. At Moorland, children benefit from continuous pastoral support within a friendly-family environment. By day, teaching staff provide continual support within small classes. Evening and weekend care is undertaken by the House Parent team. A newly created Wellbeing Centre provides students with a safe environment to access resources that foster emotional and mental growth.
