Milton Keynes Preparatory School is a well-established school, with an additional Nursery in the group, also in Milton Keynes, for children of 2 months to 4+ years.
Opening hours are 7.30 am to 6.30 pm for a 35-week academic year and an extra 11 weeks in school holidays, enabling pupils to join play schemes and to be cared for outside normal core school hours.
Staff are highly qualified and committed to delivering the very best teaching and levels of care. Academic standards are ‘Excellent’, as identified in recent inspections, with pupils being prepared for entry to senior independent schools locally and nationally and to local grammar schools. Teaching is structured to take into account, and extend, the requirements of the National Curriculum, with constant evaluation and assessment for each pupil. Scholarships are offered from Year 3 for those with excellent academic and sporting abilities.
Housed in purpose-built accommodation, specialist facilities include a CTS suite, a Music Technology studio, Sports Hall and Astroturf courts, Science Laboratory, Engineering & Design workshop and a large Art studio.
The Nursery and Pre-Preparatory Department have extended artificial grass gardens to enable year-round outdoor learning and activities.
The Environmental Studies Centre provides a state-of-the-art outdoor learning resource room and extensive outside areas for gardening and wildlife. There is a large Music and Drama Studio and a Fitness Room.
Music and Sport play an important part in the life of the school. Concerts are held, and a wide variety of sport is played, with teams competing regularly against other schools. A broad range of extracurricular activities is offered in the Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory Departments.
The school aims to incorporate the best of modern teaching methods and traditional values in a nurturing and busy environment, where good work habits and a concern for the needs of others are paramount.
