There are three forms of 18–20 children in Reception to Year 6 inclusive. We have specialist teachers for French, PE, IT, DT, Art, Drama, Science (Years 5 & 6), and Music, as well as numerous instrumental teachers for piano, brass, woodwind, percussion and strings. All staff are fully qualified.
The main school building consists of an 18th century manor house with classrooms, a new Modern Foreign Languages section, as well as a stunning new building dedicated specifically to STEAM subjects. There is also a building housing further classrooms for Year 6 and a sports hall/theatre provides additional space for sports, music and the performing arts.
The cottage at the end of the drive houses our Nursery. The children must be siblings of pupils in the main school and are eligible to attend from the term in which they turn three.
Our classrooms are bright and well equipped and the standard of work displayed is very high. We aim to provide excellent teaching and learning opportunities within a caring environment in which high standards of behaviour and good manners are encouraged and expected. We thus ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential and are prepared for entry to senior schools, both independent and state.
Music plays an important part in the life of the school. There are several choirs, an orchestra, jazz band and various ensembles and almost half the children in school learn an instrument. Music is of course linked to our Drama activities. Reception to Year 5 children take part in at least two performances a year and, in Year 6, the children all take part in the much anticipated Year 6 production. Art is of a particularly high standard and the children use a variety of media, producing excellent original work. We strongly believe in children being allowed a childhood and with this in mind, have created an all-weather Outdoor Learning area and will endeavour to create an environment that makes it simple to integrate traditional learning with an outdoor space. Our aim is to create physical spaces where students are able to develop key concepts that help meet their wellbeing needs as well as promote our ethos of a classroom without walls, leading children to understand that learning can come from any environment. The twelve acres of grounds also include pitches, an all-weather court and play areas with climbing activity equipment and other outdoor toys. The children are offered a wide range of sporting activities including football, rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, rounders, swimming and athletics.
Our caterers provide a delicious selection of fresh, healthy lunches and cater for a number of dietary requirements.
Extra activities available at the school include chess, drama and ju-jitsu. There are numerous clubs run by the staff after school until 4.30 pm, for example, cooking, football, rugby, cricket, netball, dance, athletics and choir.
Charitable status. Manor Lodge School is a Registered Charity, number 1048874. The school exists to provide an education which will maximise the potential of the girls and boys in our care.
