Loyola Preparatory School is a long-established school educating boys for over a century, originally as part of St Ignatius College. As a caring Catholic School, it welcomes boys of all denominations offering a weekly mass to celebrate faith, ethos and values.
As a boys-only school, Loyola focuses its teaching techniques to harness the attention of boys by applying the extensive studies made into ‘the ways boys learn best’. These practices encourage greater stimulation and enjoyment which is demonstrated by their overall behaviour and results.
Loyola has a high teacher-to-pupil ratio, facilitated by enthusiastic and committed teachers, supported by a generous quota of quality teaching assistants.
Loyola boys are encouraged to be kind and respect each other, with the older boys acting as role models for the younger boys. Year 6 boys are given Prefect responsibilities as well as the opportunity to be elected to the position of Head Boy and Deputy Head Boy. All boys regularly take part in community events including fundraising for national and local charities.
From Year 3 upwards, Loyola supports their boy’s progression for the next step in their learning journey by preparing them for entrance and scholarship exams, with English and maths being taught in small ability sets.
The curriculum covers all the normal primary subjects and includes Spanish, science and computer studies. There are Schola and choir opportunities available in school, with additional tuition for piano, woodwind, brass, guitar and voice.
Loyola is proud of its range of sporting activities for the boys, aided by a large all-weather pitch on site. Sporting activities include soccer, cricket, rugby, swimming, tennis, athletics and sailing, of which many are available during the school day and others offered as an after-school club.
During their time at the school, Loyola boys experience a wide range of trips and activities including a 5-day residential trip (Year 6), a 3-day residential trip (Year 5), together with many day trips across the school years selected to stimulate and enrich their learning experience.
The school prospectus is available on the school website and prospective parents are welcome to telephone to register and for an appointment to be given a personal tour of the school.
