Loughborough High School is a top-performing, independent school for girls aged 11–18. Founded in 1850, the High School, located on a beautiful, leafy campus, is the country’s oldest grammar school for girls.
At Loughborough High School, we take great pride in our pupils’ academic achievements but also believe that education is about so much more than excellent examination results. This is a school with a love of learning at its heart and where there are no limits placed on female aspiration: whether a pupil wants to be an astrophysicist, an actress or an anthropologist, our staff help and encourage all girls to achieve success.
Our aim is to develop adaptable, independent and socially responsible young women, who approach their learning with imagination, energy and a sense of adventure. We are proud to have an excellent reputation for our academic, cultural and sporting achievements, as well as for the quality of our pastoral care and in 2024, Loughborough High School was selected as one of the schools shortlisted for the Independent Girls’ School of the Year Award 2024.
We are so proud of our girls’ outstanding GCSE and A Level results and in 2023, Loughborough High School once again confirmed its place as one of the top-performing schools not just in the East Midlands, but in the United Kingdom. The School consistently places in the Sunday Times’ Parent Power top 100 in their league tables.
In 2024 20% of our A Level students achieved A*, with 51% achieving A*-A. 26% of our GCSE students achieved 9 and 54% achieved 9-8. This is accomplished through a fun, relaxed approach to learning where girls can thrive and shine. The smaller class sizes, superb teaching and well-resourced departments, and an overall environment that’s ideal for learning, create the conditions where each girl can do her very best.
Our enrichment programme is extensive and constantly evolving, ranging from numerous sporting and musical pursuits to hobbies such as chess and gardening. Activities are offered for all ages during lunchtimes and after school and all High School girls are encouraged to express themselves and enjoy as wide a range of school experiences as possible. The individual talents of every girl are nurtured in a warm and supportive community that enjoys all the advantages of a single-sex education on a co-educational campus.
Loughborough High School is part of The Loughborough Schools Foundation, a foundation of four schools comprising: Fairfield Prep School (boys and girls 3–11), Loughborough Amherst School (boys and girls 4–18) Loughborough Grammar School (boys 10–18), and Loughborough High School (girls 11–18). The schools operate under one governing body which means that our girls benefit from exceptional shared facilities, including our acclaimed 'All-Steinway’ School Music department, cutting-edge STEM resources, Combined Cadet Force opportunities, a team of outstanding educators, diverse co-curricular programmes, excellent sports facilities, top-level coaching, nutritious catering, and a comprehensive transport service within our extensive catchment area.
