The Ursuline Preparatory School Ilford is a Roman Catholic day school in the trusteeship of the Ursuline Sisters. The Ursuline Sisters first came to England in 1862, settling at Forest Gate from where they established the school in Ilford in 1903 at 73 Cranbrook Road. The school has since flourished. Formerly part of The Ursuline Academy, The Ursuline Preparatory School Ilford is now a fully independent school in its own right, but continues to share close and valued links with the Academy.
As a Catholic school, we firmly believe that Religious Education is the foundation of the entire educational process. Prayers and liturgical celebrations are an important aspect of school life, unifying the hearts and minds of all associated with the school and ensuring we are all working to achieve the best possible education for the children in our care.
We provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for our pupils to thrive. We recognise each child’s unique value and are committed to encouraging self-esteem and developing each child’s potential. We encourage the children to become independent learners by building on their curiosity and desire to learn and developing their skills, concepts and understanding.
While the school continues to set its own high standards, we complement these with the integration of the best of the National Curriculum. English and mathematics form the core subjects together with Religious Education, science, history, geography, ICT, PE, drama, design technology, art, music, MFL and stimulating project work. The Performing Arts have a high profile in school and the children are regularly given the opportunity to develop their talents. Well-stocked libraries, audio-visual aids and a specialist Information Communication Technology department are all available throughout the nursery and school.
We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities including ballet, speech and drama and Irish Dancing. Other clubs and sports clubs including football, cricket, basketball, netball, gymnastics and trampolining are held weekly. Individual instrumental tuition can be arranged for piano, violin, guitar and ukulele. There is also an award-winning school choir.
All teaching staff are fully qualified, experienced and dedicated to the ideals of the school. They work in close partnership with parents to ensure that each child’s special individual needs are recognised. In addition, we have the help of experienced general assistants. Our pupil to teacher ratio is excellent and we are able to engage in small group teaching.
Pre- and after-school care is available. Holiday club is run by an outside company at an additional cost.
Charitable status. The Ursuline Preparatory School Ilford is a Registered Charity, number 245661.
