About Hurlingham. Hurlingham School is a non-selective, independent preparatory school in Putney that places pupil enrichment, and building our community, at the heart of being ‘More Than Just A School’. Our Nursery is a hugely popular, calm and nurturing environment located in Gwendolen Avenue, and provides families with the option of nursery provision for children aged 2 to 4.
Ethos. Our ethos is a commitment to providing robust enrichment for our pupils to develop their own interests and skills through exposure to a variety of curriculum subjects and wider experiences; learning in a ‘safe’ environment where mistakes and questions are encouraged. Our enthusiastic teachers are passionate about education and dedicated to building each child’s self-confidence, self-discipline and enjoyment of learning.
Location and facilities. Our spacious and modern school is designed to provide the best learning environment with bright, airy classrooms, as well as dedicated spaces such as our art studio, science lab and music rooms, where we foster creativity and discovery. Our gym and dance studio and expansive school hall offer wonderful spaces for active learning, while two large playgrounds provide plenty of room for play. We benefit from the adjacent Wandsworth Park for sports lessons and fixtures, and we make use of the excellent Rocks Lane sports facilities.
Visit us. We encourage all families to visit us by joining an Open Morning or by booking a private tour. Our private tours for those joining us in the 2025 academic year afford parents a bespoke tour with our Heads of Pre-Prep or Upper School, who are passionate about education and provide you with valuable insights into our school's ethos and teaching methods, as well as being able to visit our Head, Mr Gould. Open mornings, held every two months, are a great opportunity to see the school at its busiest during a school day and to hear from Mr Gould and our Senior Leadership. Families can book these via our online admissions portal, or using the link on our website.
Entry. There is no formal entry assessment and children in our Nursery move seamlessly into our main school. Families wishing to join our Reception should register as early as possible, and are placed on an Admissions list with places offered, in order of receipt, in the Summer term, a year ahead of their start in the following September. Priority of places is given to our Nursery pupils and siblings of current pupils.
Families applying for places outside of Reception entry complete a registration form and children are invited to enjoy a Taster Visit with us. While there is an informal assessment in English and Maths, it is our expectation that having pupils spend time with their prospective classmates and getting a feel for life of the school will help inform their own decision about joining the school.
