Horris Hill is one of the leading prep schools in the UK. The school’s emphasis is on the development of the whole child, without compromising the 130-year record of academic excellence. Horris Hill School has a unique ethos which develops every child as an individual and provides a rigorous and extensive academic, sporting, musical and artistic foundation. Since September 2023, Horris Hill has been co-educational across the whole school.
We deliver success by achieving places and awards at the very best senior schools and developing children with impeccable manners, good humour, kindness and self-confidence. Recent awards to senior schools have included academic scholarship to Harrow and Winchester, Music Exhibition to Eton and Harrow, and sport scholarships at Cheltenham, Radley and Sherborne.
We nurture and challenge every child to see school as an exciting adventure and lessons are carefully planned to excite and interest with stimulating activities to foster each child’s development.
Life outside the classroom is just as important to us at Horris Hill, enhancing your child’s experience and enjoyment of their school days. Almost all of the children in the upper school take individual music lessons in our purpose-built music school, and, in the new dedicated theatre, pupils take part in weekly drama lessons and LAMDA classes. The theatre also hosts quizzes, talks, lectures and movie nights.
Playing sport is a very important part of school life and we aim to give every child the confidence to participate on the games field, to provide high-quality coaching for every age group and to see pupils develop a number of sports which they enjoy playing. Horris Hill pupils are competitive on the pitch, but also understand the vital importance of playing fairly and of being great hosts.
With 65 acres of parkland and a wide variety of sports, activities, clubs and hobbies on offer, there is no chance of your child being bored.
A significant proportion of our pupils, and nearly all of those in the lower school, are day pupils. Our local families form a considerable and vital part of our close-knit school community. In the upper school, day pupils eat supper and complete their prep at school, just like their boarding counterparts. Boarding is a wonderful opportunity for your child to grow as an independent individual. Our younger boarders sleep in the heart of the school, where they learn how to thrive in a ‘home away from home’, in a nurturing and supportive environment. Life in our senior boarding house on the estate encourages its residents to develop the independence and confidence to prepare them for life at senior school. A variety of flexible boarding options are available, including as few as three nights at school for the youngest boarders, to weekly or full boarding.
