Berkhamsted Pre-Prep is a co-educational independent day school for ages 3–7. Berkhamsted Pre-Prep offers a balanced approach to learning where children are equally nurtured and challenged to extend themselves. Taking risks and being adventurous in all aspects of school life underpin an ambition to aim high with integrity, for every individual child. The extensive grounds and innovative approach to learning which develop not only knowledge but also the skills of being a learner, ensure that the children bound into school excited and hungry to learn more. The family atmosphere, where experienced staff place pastoral care and wellbeing at the heart of school life, provides children with a safe and secure environment to grow emotionally and socially. In addition, children have opportunities to learn French, music, drama, dance, sport and art, all taught by specialist teachers, as well as an outdoor education that takes full advantage of our exceptional grounds.
Knowing that future success is dependent on the firm foundations of academic and personal growth, the excellent educational start at Pre-Prep enable children to progress through the family of schools at Berkhamsted and beyond, with key skills of leadership, independence and high levels of communication. After-school clubs, outings and trips further enhance an exciting curriculum and extend children’s experiences. Wraparound care, from 07.30 to 18.00, supports parents and provides a healthy breakfast and home-from-home experience after a long day. Camp Beaumont, our holiday activities camp at the school designed for 3–11 year olds, is usually available every holiday from 08.00 to 18.00.
Berkhamsted Day Nursery (0–3+ years) is open 50 weeks per year from 07.30 to 18.00, and is situated on the school site. Children can join Berkhamsted Day Nursery from 5 months of age and can move on to Berkhamsted Pre-Prep, which is just next door. Berkhamsted Day Nursery caters for children up to the September that they begin in the Nursery class at Berkhamsted Pre-Prep (when they can use the school’s out-of-hours clubs).
