Gayhurst is a happy, thriving and vibrant independent preparatory school for girls and boys aged 3–11. For over 100 years, the school has endeavoured to bring out the best in every child in its care by focusing on individual talents and supporting children to achieve their full potential. Since becoming co-educational in 2008, Gayhurst has built a reputation as a family school, providing first-class co-education in Gerrards Cross.
Life at Gayhurst is engaging and exciting with regular activities organised to enrich the education of its pupils. Children are encouraged to participate in sport, with a busy programme of fixtures against other schools. Creativity is evident throughout the school with opportunities to learn an instrument, become a member of one of the many musical ensembles or take part in the annual year group drama productions. There are also numerous visits to places of interest on both day and residential trips.
Gayhurst strives to ensure that pupils are given every opportunity to achieve the best start in life. The school's commitment to continual improvement and development means that the children benefit greatly from the facilities offered on the school's five-acre site, including IT rooms, Science laboratories, woodland adventure playground and an all-weather Astroturf.
Pupils consistently achieve strong academic results, progressing to both local Grammar Schools and to Senior Schools, day and boarding, in the Independent sector.
Headmaster, Gareth Davies says, ‘Pupils’ social and personal development is enhanced by the co-educational experience that they get at Gayhurst. In my experience, boys and girls enjoy learning and socialising together and at such a young age, the elimination of gender stereotypes and access to different perspectives and ideas proves only to be beneficial. The family ethos, excellent pastoral care, support and guidance from our caring staff and parent partnership also reinforce the children’s positive experiences at school.’
