Fulneck fulfils…
Fulneck has a warm, family atmosphere and is a vibrant, inclusive community in which to live, learn and achieve. The wonderful rural location in the historic and unique settlement of Fulneck provides an inspirational and stimulating environment for children and young people to fulfil their potential.
For over two hundred and seventy years, Fulneck has delivered a distinctive education which values individuals, and it is the quality of the relationships and the personalised approach that makes our school so successful. Our students are at the heart of everything we do; they are happy, creative, aspirational and form life-long friendships. Small acts of kindness are valued in equal measure alongside achievements in national competitions.
We pride ourselves on setting high expectations for every individual which allow them to achieve at levels well above the national average, instilling good manners and fostering an ethic of hard work. Pupils experience outstanding opportunities inside and outside the classroom, learning how to work in a team and how to provide the leadership that our society needs.
Fulneck School’s academic results speak for themselves and the School is proud of its position in the top 5% of all schools and colleges in England in 2021. With our diverse curriculum, we are constantly able to help our pupils to fulfil, if not exceed, their academic potential. Whether it be pupils with Oxbridge aspirations or those needing expert care from our award-winning Learning Support Unit, Fulneck School is equipped to help each individual succeed.
Just as important, however, are the ambitions, skills and personal attributes that are developed through a Fulneck education. Whether it be music, sport, drama or the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, pupils learn how to succeed as individuals and as teams. As adults, we know that these characteristics are, in the end, as important as exam qualifications in determining our success in the real world.
A Fulneck education opens doors for its pupils, giving them the tools and skills they need to approach the next stage of their careers with confidence and enthusiasm. Our committed and expert staff inspire our pupils to gain a love of learning, an inquisitive mind, the confidence to try new things and old-fashioned Yorkshire grit to pick themselves up if at first they don’t succeed.
Where we differ from other schools, however, is in our emphasis on making a positive contribution to the society around us, whether that be in West Yorkshire, the UK or further afield like 18th-century architect and alumnus, Benjamin Latrobe. Our pupils are outward looking, empathetic and humble.
We are a diverse yet close-knit community with a family feel to it. Our community is enriched by its diversity, with pupils coming to us from across Yorkshire, the UK and all over the world. Our small boarding house provides a real family atmosphere and is a ‘home away from home’ whether that is for the occasional night, weekly or full, termly boarding.
We are a small school and therefore offer a more personalised education than many other schools. This only gives a flavour of what Fulneck School has to offer and we warmly invite you to visit us in person to understand why Fulneck fulfils…
Sport. Netball, Football, Cricket and Rounders are the main games of the School.
Activities. Music education is strong with Performing Arts in the Junior and Senior school.
There are a number of clubs and societies such as Art, Computer Coding, Languages, Golf, Netball, Table Tennis, Forensic Club, Science, Eco, Strength & Conditioning, Dance and Rock Band.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is available to pupils over the age of 14, together with a wide range of trips and residential visits, walking and skiing. The school has regularly participated in World Challenge expeditions.
Pre-School and Early Years. Fulneck School has been an excellent centre for education for over 260 years. Our Pre-School benefits from our many years of educational experience, meaning we know how to balance learning and development with exploration, play and imagination to give your child a well-rounded start and prepare them for school life.
Primary School (Key Stage 2). We are values driven and in particular, our two values of ‘work hard’ and ‘be kind’ are very visible from the moment you arrive. We focus on our remaining values of ‘be useful’ and ‘go well’ by placing emphasis on serving our community and being mentally and physically fit.
Our children study a knowledge-rich curriculum and our talented teachers bring it to life by creating memories that will last a lifetime.
We have small class sizes, enabling teachers to give precise feedback and next steps to children throughout the day, thus accelerating their academic performance. With our skilled staff, friendly children and small numbers, all the children are highly visible, and the school has a real family feel.
Senior School and Sixth Form. Our Senior Students are nurtured to develop into successful and compassionate young adults who can take the 21st century by storm. With our diverse cultural mix within the boarding community, the Senior School offers a truly international experience which prepares our young people for life beyond school.
In our classrooms, our highly qualified, dedicated teachers deliver teaching and learning which is at the cutting edge of education. We are never complacent; Challenge, enquiry and engagement are key to every Fulneck lesson and inspirational teaching is an expectation. To sum up our Senior School, our aim is to ensure that, collectively and individually, we are the best we can be.
The Sixth Form years are best seen as a co-operative partnership between the teachers and students, with both working together to secure the very best academic results and outcomes. We are ambitious for our pupils, supporting many to achieve places at top UK universities. Fulneck students are encouraged to develop themselves and follow their dreams. Dedicated staff encourage each individual student to reach their goals and be the best they can be. We take pride in preparing and equipping our Sixth Formers for the challenges of university, employment and life beyond Fulneck. Excellent teaching in a brand new Sixth Form study centre, a wide programme of enrichment activities and outstanding pastoral care make Fulneck a fantastic place to study.
International students: Fulneck is a diverse and inclusive school and we welcome students of all nationalities to join us. We offer both day and boarding places to international students.
Learning Support Unit. The aim of the LSU is to support pupils with special learning needs, providing teaching programmes and strategies to allow access to the curriculum at a level commensurate with intellectual ability. The Unit is CReSTeD approved and has repeatedly confirmed its ‘DU’ status, the highest grade awarded to mainstream schools.
Parents and Friends Association. There is a flourishing organisation which acts as a fundraising body, and also supports the School in a variety of other ways. This is a living example of the belief that education is a partnership between home and school.
Admission. Admission to the school is welcomed at any age depending on the availability of places. Direct entry to the Sixth Form is also possible.
