Exeter Cathedral School is Exeter's oldest school offering boys and girls aged 3-13 a remarkably tailored education.
Proudly educating the 40 boy and girl choristers of Exeter Cathedral, today we are a thriving independent school, fostering a happy and purposeful learning environment where every child can reach their full potential.
Our size means we are large enough to have the vibrancy, energy and expertise to deliver truly first-rate educational opportunities, yet small enough to know each and every one of our pupils as individuals. This, coupled with our passionate focus on character development, is why we believe our pupils flourish academically, creatively and socially… for a lifetime.
Pastoral care and pupil wellbeing are at the forefront of all that we do, and we believe very firmly that happy children are best placed to be successful learners and engaged members of the community.
Curriculum: We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that focuses on developing the whole child, aiming to ensure that each pupil leaves Exeter Cathedral School ready for the challenges ahead and understanding their responsibility to others.
Music: Founded as a choir school in the 12th century, and as one of today’s 44 Cathedral Schools in the UK, Exeter Cathedral School has music at its heart. We are known for providing a breadth of musical opportunity, and for being a school which promotes ‘music for all’ while offering high-calibre training to our most gifted elite musicians.
Our choristers receive a scholarship to attend the school, which is awarded by the Dean and Chapter of Exeter Cathedral. As well as being fully involved in the life of the school, our choristers are trained to a professional standard to sing alongside the adult members of the choir, benefitting from world-class musical coaching and unparalleled opportunities.
Sport: Exeter Cathedral School is serious about sport, with a philosophy of ‘sport for all’. We focus on participation, development and enjoyment, while still catering to our elite athletes. We are proud of our long-standing association with some of the region’s top sporting clubs and venues. We train and play at the world-class Exeter University Sports Hub, including the astroturf pitches and indoor sports hall, as well as Exeter Cricket Club and County Ground, Exeter Athletics Arena and Victoria Park Tennis Club. These first-rate venues are just minutes away in one of our minibuses, allowing our pupils and staff to make the most of the best sporting facilities in the city.
Charitable status: Exeter Cathedral School is a Registered Charity, no. 1151444.
