Cottesmore is an award-winning co-educational Preparatory school for girls and boys in West Sussex, less than an hour from London.
Curriculum. Boys and girls are taught together in classes averaging 12 in number. Children are fully prepared for Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations. Cottesmore achieves excellent academic results. The strength of Cottesmore’s academic programme lies within its breadth. There are 21 different curriculum subjects taught. Through this rich variety of intellectual experience, each girl and boy finds her or his particular strength and this in turn lifts their all-round potential.
Music. The musical tradition is strong – more than 90% of children learn a variety of instruments; there are three Choirs, a School Orchestra and several musical ensembles.
Sport. The major games are football, rugby, cricket, hockey, swimming, tennis, netball, athletics and rounders. Numerous other sports are taught and encouraged. These include archery, riding, basketball, shooting, short tennis, canoeing, snooker, cross-country running, squash, table tennis, gymnastics, trampoline, golf, chess and judo. The School competes at a national level in several of these sports.
Recent developments. Our Technology Centre houses a constantly developing Information Technology Suite, a Design Technology room for metal, woodwork, plastic and pneumatics, a Craft room, kiln, two Science laboratories and Art Studio.
Hobbies and activities. These include Pottery, Drone Club, Photography, Bridge, Model-Making, Model Railway, Tenpin Bowling, Gardening, Rollerblading, Ballet, Modern Dancing, Drama, Craft, Carpentry, Printing, Cooking and Debating.
The boys and girls lead a full and varied life and are all encouraged to take part in as wide a variety of activities as possible. Weekends are a vital part of the school life and are made busy and fun for all.
Headmaster's Philosophy: Everyone has a talent. Whatever creative or academic outlet makes a child tick, Cottesmore finds and nurtures it. Endeavour and fun are the most important elements of intellectual life at Cottesmore. Success follows this explosion of discovery and purposefulness.
