The school was founded in 1918 and moved to Roche Court in 1960. A new 99-year lease was secured in 1994. The school is set in 30 acres of pleasant, self-contained grounds between Fareham and Wickham in Hampshire and enjoys extensive views of the countryside around.
The Pre-School takes children from the age of 2 years 9 months to rising 5 and this group is housed in a purpose-built centre offering the most up-to-date facilities. This department is structured to the needs of this age group with the day running from from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.
The Pre-Prep Department has its own purpose-built buildings and other facilities within the school, and caters for children from rising 5 to 8 years of age (Reception to Year 3).
At 8 years the children move to the Preparatory Department where they remain until they are 11 years old (Year 6). From here they move to Seniors in Year 7 and choose their GCSE options in Year 9 from a large array of subjects. Full and weekly boarding is offered to pupils from the age of 10 years (Year 5) and the school has a policy of admitting boarders in a flexible system that is of great benefit to all. Pupils are prepared for a wide number of independent schools throughout the United Kingdom in a friendly and caring environment.
Apart from the historic main house of Roche Court where the boarders live, there are the Jubilee and Kellett Blocks of classrooms, three science laboratories, the Widley Block, Library and the Music Centre. The School has three ICT Suites and two purpose-built Art and Design Technology Centres that incorporate work areas for Fine Art, Cooking, Photography, Pottery and Carpentry. The school has an Assembly Hall that is also used for Drama and Physical Education.
As well as extensive playing fields with woods beyond for cross country and a woodland classroom for Outdoor Learning, the all-weather AstroTurf pitch is utilised for football, hockey, netball, basketball and tennis. In addition, there is a large sports hall on site and an outdoor, heated swimming pool.
Many sports are taught as part of the curriculum and there is a wide selection of optional extracurricular clubs and activities available for both day and boarding pupils. These include judo, swimming, horse riding, art, camp craft, chess, and many more.
