St Bede’s College, Manchester. For 150 years, St Bede’s has stood at the heart of Manchester, a place where faith, family and learning come together.
A Catholic co-educational independent college, we welcome both Catholic and non-Catholic children from Nursery through to Sixth Form.
Our home, a magnificent Grade II-listed building, carries generations of stories within its walls. Yet our spirit has never stood still. Every year, new pupils walk through those doors to begin their own.
The Bedian Way. To be Bedian is to be curious, kind and courageous.
Our pupils grow into confident, grounded and compassionate young people who carry their values as firmly as their qualifications.
We are proud of their academic results, but prouder still of the grace, gratitude and character they show in everyday life.
With around one hundred places available each year, each child is known by name and nurtured as an individual. In small classes and a family-centred community, learning feels personal, built on respect, friendship and shared purpose.
We believe education should shape both intellect and heart. Knowledge matters, but so does empathy. Ambition matters, but so does service.
Ultimately, we want every Bedian to leave ready to make a difference in their universities, their careers and the wider world beyond our gates.
Admissions. Children may join the College at any stage in their journey.
Many begin in our co-educational Nursery from the age of three, continuing seamlessly through our Prep and into the Senior College, an all-through education rooted in care and continuity.
External applicants sit the College Entrance Examination at 11+, held each January, while Sixth Form entry is by interview from the beginning of the Easter Term.

Learning and growth. Our curriculum is broad, ambitious and evolving, designed to bring out every pupil’s potential.
In the Lower School, pupils study English, Mathematics, Sciences, Religious Education, Latin, Computer Science, Technology, History, Geography and PE.
As they move through the College, options expand across Languages, Arts, Business and creative subjects, allowing them to follow curiosity wherever it leads.
At GCSE/IGCSE, pupils typically study ten subjects supported by enrichment programmes.
In the Sixth Form, students may choose from over 23 A level courses alongside the Extended Project Qualification. We ask that students achieve at least a grade 6 in the subjects they wish to study at A level, with a minimum of grade 7 required in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics to ensure they are well prepared for advanced study.
Our Learning Support Department ensures every pupil is guided to reach their full academic and personal potential.
Beyond the classroom. Life at St Bede’s reaches far beyond the timetable.
From music and drama to debating, sport and service projects, our pupils are encouraged to try new things, lead with confidence and give something back.
These experiences help them to discover who they are, developing skills for life and faith in their own ability, to shape the future.
When they leave us, they do so ready to meet the world with energy, optimism and a Bedian sense of purpose.
