King Edward’s Pre-Prep and Nursery offers an exciting and stimulating world in which to start school life. A desire to make learning ‘irresistible’ in a nurturing environment is at the heart of everything we do. Personalised learning, combined with academic rigour, ensures that every child thrives and is provided with the extension and support that they need. New initiatives, fresh challenges, concerts, trips, visiting experts and inspiring projects all help to enrich our broad and creative curriculum.
Ethos. Child focused – First and foremost we want every child to feel safe, encouraged and happy in school. We place children at the centre of learning, creating a close match between your child and the curriculum. This helps to increase a child’s eagerness to learn, builds self-esteem and encourages positive attitudes.
Family focused – Visitors to the Pre-Prep often remark on the wonderful ‘family feel’ that they sense in the school. We work very hard to be as family-focused as possible and are very fortunate to have such supportive parents; we are never short of volunteers for the many school trips that the children enjoy and for all the varied events that take place. It is lovely to see not only parents but grandparents taking an active role in the school.
Outdoor focused – At King Edward’s the outdoor environment is a natural extension of the classroom and we are proud of our status as a Forest School. As well as allowing children to engage directly with the environment, outdoor learning also brings together many different elements of the curriculum and enriches school life.
Facilities. Our Pre-Prep and Nursery is situated in a beautiful Victorian house close to Royal Victoria Park, Bath. In addition to the light and airy classrooms, we have a well-equipped school hall. There is also Teddy’s Lodge for pre- and after-school care, a cookery room, a library and a wellbeing room. Children make full use of the spacious and safe grounds to the rear of the main house, with a dedicated outdoor cedar lodge classroom, storytelling corner, surfaced playground, wooden fort, wooded area and an amazing adventure climbing frame. The grounds also boast an extensively landscaped gardening area with greenhouse, where the children cultivate their own vegetables, as well as a dipping pond for Science investigation. There is also a magical sensory garden and an all-weather Astro pitch for team games.
Junior School and Senior School. For details of the Junior School please see separate IAPS entry and for the Senior School please see King Edward’s School’s entry under HMC.
Charitable status. King Edward’s Pre-Prep and Nursery is part of King Edward’s School Bath which is a Registered Charity, number 1115875.
